INDIANAPOLIS – Baylor track and field head coach Michael Ford has been appointed as the men’s sprints/hurdles coach for Team USA in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris this summer.

Joining USATF men’s head coach Stanley Redwine, the head coach of the cross-conference Kansas Jayhawks, Ford will coach alongside Nic Petersen (jumps/multis), Gary Aldrich (throws) and Mike Marsh (relays) in France.

“I am truly grateful, thankful and blessed to be selected to the on the USA Paris Olympic staff,” said Ford. “I have been on a few international teams before, but the Olympic Games is a huge honor.”

Ford is in his 22nd year on staff at BU and his third as head coach, working with sprints, short hurdles and relays. The 1997 Baylor graduate was a two-time 4x400-meter relay national champion, running the first leg for both the 1995 team and the 1996 team. Both of those teams also won conference titles.

The Rochester, N.Y., native has worked with Olympic gold and silver medalists, including Trayvon Bromell, Jeremy Wariner, Reggie Witherspoon, Sanjay Ayre and Darold Williamson. Wariner claimed gold in the men’s 400 meters in 2004 and silver at the 2008 games, while also winning the 4x400-meter relay both years. Williamson joined Wariner on the winning 4x400m squad during the 2004 games in Athens.

The XXXIII Olympiad is set to kick off with the Opening Ceremony on Friday, July 26, and the men’s sprints events start on Saturday, Aug. 3. After 16 full days of competition, the closing ceremony is slated for Sunday, Aug. 11, before sights turn stateside for the 2028 games in Los Angeles.

“I am looking forward to representing the United States and Baylor University in Paris this summer,” said Ford.
