Baylor MGOLF Finishes 18th at the Prestige
Johnny Keefer finishes tied for 25th, while Luke Morgan and Trey Bosco shine as individuals

LA QUINTA, Calif. – On the heels of a 7-over 859, Baylor men’s golf opened the spring semester with an 18th-place finish at the Prestige at PGA West.

For the third time this season, Johnny Keefer led the way for Baylor with a 3-under 210, good enough for a tie for 25th.

Texas Tech captured the overall team title with a 33-under 819, 12 shots ahead of second-place Kansas. The Jayhawks’ Cecil Belisle took home individual medalist honors with a 13-under 200, two shots ahead of Washington’s Petr Hruby.

THE RUNDOWN
Keefer went out with a pair of birdies on the front nine at Nos. 7 and 9 to make the turn at 2-under. Keefer would push it to 3-under with a birdie at No. 16 before giving it back with a bogey at 17 to close out a 2-under 70.

Davis Ovard finished his first stroke-play event in the lineup with a tie for 53rd, thanks to a 3-over 213 across three days. The freshman opened the final round with a birdie but followed with bogeys at Nos. 2, 5, 6 and seven before carding another birdie at No. 8 to close the front nine. He made two more bogeys at Nos. 11 and 12 but played the final six holes at even par.

Luke Dossey recorded a tie for 85th with a 7-over 220. Four-straight pars opened the day for Dossey, but bogeys at Nos. 5 and 9 put him at 2-over at the turn. The senior's first birdie of the day came at No. 12. He would add one more at No. 17, but only after two more bogeys at Nos. 14 and 15, which put him at 2-over on the round.

Tyler Isenhart notched his best round of the week on Wednesday with an even-par 70 to finish tied for 94th. The senior made two bogeys in his first three holes at Nos. 2 and 3, but got one back with a birdie at No. 9. Making the turn at 1-over, Isenhart opened the inward half with a bogey before finishing strong with a pair of birdies at Nos. 11 and 17.

Jonas Appel finished tied for 102nd after a 3-over 74 on Wednesday. On the heels of eight-straight pars to open the final round, Appel made back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 9 and 10 to drop to 2-over on the day. After a bogey at No. 12, he made two more bogeys at Nos. 13 and 15. At 3-over, Appel made a birdie at No. 17 and a bogey at No. 18 to finish his round at that number.

Of Baylor's five representatives at the Prestige Individual, two carded top-10 finishes as Luke Morgan recorded a career-best tie for fourth with a 4-under 212. At the same time, Trey Bosco notched his second-straight top-10 finish with a tie for sixth. Zach Heffernan finished 45th, Patricio Gonzalez tied for 46th and Sam Dossey tied for 49th.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Johnny Keefer has now shot par or better in seven straight stroke-play rounds, dating back to the final round of the Fighting Illini Invitational.
  *   Luke Morgan's 17 birdies tied for the most in the field at the Prestige Individual.
  *   Trey Bosco now has six career Top-10 finishes

STAT OF THE DAY
71.47 — With a 3-under 210 this week, Johnny Keefer improved his career stroke average to 71.47, 0.08 strokes ahead of Jimmy Walker for the all-time program record.
