Baylor MGOLF Moves into a Tie for 17th at the Prestige

LA QUINTA, Calif. – Baylor men’s climbed one spot into a tie for 17th with a 4-under 280 in the second round on Tuesday at the Prestige at PGA West.

For the fourth time in the last five rounds, three or more Bears broke par as Johnny Keefer, Luke Dossey and Davis Ovard carded 2-under 69s to lead BU in round two.

The Bears carded a 4-under 280 on the day and sit at 3-over 571 overall, just five shots out of the top 10. Texas Tech continues to lead the tournament at 24-under 544. Kansas’ Cecil Belisle is the overnight individual leader after a 9-under 133 through two rounds.

THE RUNDOWN
Ovard continued his strong play with a second straight round at par or better to finish the day tied for 25th. On the heels of a bogey at No. 3, the freshman bounced back with a birdie at No. 4 but finished the front nine with bogeys at Nos. 6 and 7. Ovard set the tone for his back nine with a birdie at No. 10 and followed it up with three more at Nos. 12, 15 and 16 to round out his 69.

Keefer made an early birdie at No. 3 and kept a clean card until a triple-bogey cost him three strokes at No. 9. With pars at Nos. 10 and 11, The senior birdied four of his final seven holes to get back into red figures and a tie for 25th.

Dossey bounced back from an opening-round 78 with a 69 on Tuesday to climb into a tie for 82nd. After opening with five pars, a pair of bogeys at Nos. 6 and 7 tripped up the senior, but he got a stroke back with a birdie at No. 8 before closing the front nine. The senior added three more birdies on Nos. 10, 12 and 13 en route to a bogey-free back nine.

Jonas Appel ended day two with a score of 2-over 73 and a tie for 100th. The freshman opened with a 3-over 38 on the front nine with a bogey at No. 4 and a double-bogey at No. 7. On the heels of another bogey at No. 13, Appel closed strong with birdies on two of his final four holes at Nos. 15 and 16.

Tyler Isenhart finished the day with a 6-over 77 to settle into a tie for 103rd. Four over through his first six holes, The senior rebounded with a birdie at No. 8 before making the turn. Another double-bogey at No. 10 dropped him to five over on the round, before he clawed back a shot with a birdie at No. 15. Isenhart closed the day with two more bogeys at Nos. 16 and 17.

Over at the Prestige individual invite, Luke Morgan used six birdies on the front nine — including five in a row — to shoot a 2-under 70 and pull into a tie for 11th. Meanwhile, on his birthday, fellow senior Trey Bosco made five birdies en route to an even-par 72 and a 16th-place finish after two rounds.

HIGHLIGHTS

STAT OF THE DAY
69 — The Bears had three players in the lineup break par; that's the fourth time in the last five rounds BU has had three or more players shoot in the 60s.
