TUCSON, Ariz. – Baylor track and field is headed to soon-to-be Big 12 country for the University of Arizona’s Desert Heat Classic on Saturday at Drachman Stadium.

The women’s hammer throw competition kicks off the full afternoon and evening of competition at 2 p.m. CT and the running events begin at 6:30 p.m. CT with the men’s 110-meter hurdles.

A stacked 4x400-meter relay field will end the day, with the men’s race set to begin at midnight CT.

Live results will be provided online by Finished Results<https://finishedresults.trackscoreboard.com/meets/11871/events> and the meet will not be streamed.

LAST TIME OUT

The Bears hosted a weather-shortened Michael Johnson Invitational at the Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium. Before the rain set in, BU took eight event wins across the two-day meet. Molly Haywood (women’s pole vault), Alexis Brown (women’s long jump), Koi Johnson (women’s triple jump), Michaela Francois (women’s 100 meters), Hayden Gold (women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase), Demar Francis (men’s 400 meters collegiate), De’montray Callis (men’s 100 meters collegiate) and the women’s 4x100-meter relay worked to secure the event wins on and around the Green Oval.

OH, HOW THEY’VE FALLEN

The Bears have toppled four total program records in the first five weeks of the outdoor season. Alexis Brown tabbed a 21-11 ½ at the Michael Johnson Invitational to take the long jump record for the second time this season, Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi threw for 271-8 at the African Games to win the javelin title with the record and Nathaniel Ezekiel improved his nearly two-year-old mark in the 400-meter hurdles to a 48.29 at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Florida.

THREE IS A MAGIC NUMBER

The Bears have three marks ranked third in the nation going into the final meet before the Big 12 Championships. From the three program record holders, Alexis Brown (women’s long jump), Nathaniel Ezekiel (400-meter hurdles) and Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi (men’s javelin throw) each occupy the tertiary positions on the NCAA DI Outdoor Performance Lists.

BE THE BEST IN THE WEST

In the west region that spans from Arkansas to California, Baylor has 24 individuals within the top 48 and all four relays within the top 24 to qualify to the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds on May 22-25 at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark. Nathaniel Ezekiel, Molly Haywood, Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi, Alexis Brown and the men’s 4x100-meter relay each hold top 5 positions.
