WACO, Texas – Baylor men's basketball officially welcomed guard V.J. Edgecombe to their 2024 signing class on Wednesday, head coach Scott Drew announced.

“V.J. is a dynamic athlete with a great skill set," Drew said. “He has a great feel for the game and will be a great teammate, embracing our culture of JOY. He will also be a great asset to Baylor University as a whole, and someone our fans will enjoy watching play every night.”

A native of Nassau, Bahamas, Edgecombe is coming off a stellar senior season at Long Island Lutheran, where he helped the Crusaders reach No. 2 in the ESPN High School basketball rankings. Long Island reached the Chipotle National Finals (formerly GEICO Nationals), falling in the quarterfinals of the eight-team national tournament against Columbus, which eventually bowed out in the semifinals against fellow Baylor signee Robert Wright and his Montverde Academy Eagles.

Edgecombe was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in New York for the second-straight season, joining his classmate Wright, who was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Pennsylvania in 2022-23.

The Bahamian is coming off a strong showing at the Nike Hoop Summit, where he competed for the World Team, tallying 17 points and five boards in a 98-75 loss against Team USA. Prior to the Hoop Summit, he tallied nine points and five rebounds in the McDonalds All-American game.

Edgecombe joins Wright, Jason Asemota and Noah Boyed in a class rated as high as No. 2 in the country by On3.com. ESPN, Rivals and 247 Sports also have the Bears’ 2024 class ranked in the top-5.

Baylor men's basketball is coming off its fifth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, and joins Kansas, Gonzaga and Houston as the only teams that have won at least one tournament game in each of those five appearances. Playing as a No. 3 seed, BU is the only program in the country to be a No. 3 seed or higher in each of the last four NCAA Tournaments.
