WACO, Texas – Baylor Softball fell in its midweek matchup against UT Arlington, 4-3, Tuesday night at Getterman Stadium.
THE RUNDOWN
The Bears threatened in the bottom of the first after Shaylon Govan drew a walk and Sydney Collazos doubled down the right-field line, but no runs would come around to score.

UT Arlington took the 2-0 lead in the top of the second when they plated two runs on solo shots to left field.

Ana Watson was able to get a run back for the Bears in the bottom half of the second when she hit her first long ball of the season over the wall in right field. Ashlyn Wachtendorf laid down a bunt but was the Bears' only other baserunner of the inning.

After working out of a bases-loaded jam in the third inning, Baylor was able to take the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Govan was walked for the second straight at-bat to put a runner on for Aliyah Binford, who doubled to left center to bring home pinch-runner Caroline Rowatt and tie the game 2-2. BU took the one-run lead after another double, this one off the bat of Watson, which the Bears carried until the fifth inning.

The Mavericks got a two-out rally going in the top of the fifth when a double and a single plated two runs and gave UTA the 4-3 lead.

After keeping the Mavericks off the board in the sixth and seventh innings, the Bears were down to their last three outs in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Emily Hott doubled to center field before Govan was walked, for the third time in the game, but that would be all as the Bears fell 4-3.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   The Bears out-hit the Mavericks 8-7
  *   Six different Bears recorded a hit
  *   Sydney Collazos and Ana Watson each had a two-hit night
  *   Five different Bears recorded a double in the game
  *   This marks the second time this season the Bears have recorded five doubles in a single game
  *   Shaylon Govan was walked three times, which ties a career-high
  *   Kaci West pitched 5.0 innings, striking out five batters


QUOTABLE
Head coach Glenn Moore on trying to get a rally going late in the game …
“Yeah, to be quite honest with you, most of the season has been line drives right to people. Like, we wore out their second baseman. We barreled up a lot of balls. That one wasn't hit that hard, but it was — like you said — it was like it could have started a big rally. Of course, it would have scored her with Emily's double. And Emily's double is out of 90% of the ballparks in America, but not Getterman. This is where we play. So, that holds her at second and we can't get her in. But it's just disappointing. I thought we played well offensively. The run production didn't show it, but I thought the positive plate appearances, the quality at-bats, the barrels to (the) ball — we had just as much as we did in any game this year. And we just can't push runs across. So, it’s kind of been that way most of the year for us.”

The Bears will host UCF for a three-game conference series Friday-Saturday, April 19-21, at Getterman Stadium.
