AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 37 Baylor men’s tennis team will travel to Austin on Saturday for a matchup against No. 4 Texas on Friday at 4 p.m. CT at the Texas Tennis Center.

Baylor (18-9 (2-4 Big 12)) is coming off a two-game losing skid, dropping matches on the road to No. 11 Oklahoma and No. 33 Oklahoma State. The Bears’ last win was against BYU on March 30.

Texas (18-3 (6-0 Big 12)) has won nine straight in a streak that features wins over No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 TCU and No. 11 Oklahoma. Its three losses this season were at the hands of highly ranked opponents in No. 1 Virginia, No. 2 TCU and No. 14 Arizona.

The Longhorns have the edge all-time against the Bears, leading 46-27, although BU claimed six of the previous nine victories since 2019.

The Bears have three ranked singles players leading the squad at the top three courts. No. 62 Tadeas Paroulek (12-9) looks to rebound after a ranked loss last week. Meanwhile, No. 110 Devin Badenhorst (14-4) seeks to continue to win after defeating No. 71 Alex Garcia of Oklahoma State on Sunday. No. 90 Zsombor Velcz’s last singles win was on March 28.

UT boasts five ranked players, three being in the top 50: No. 1 Elliot Spizziri (23-4), No. 2 Micah Braswell (32-2), and No. 35 Gilles-Armaud Bailly (13-3). The Longhorns’ other ranked players include No. 61 Jonah Braswell and No. 84 Pierre-Yves Bailly.

Baylor still holds a lone ranked pairing, No. 33 Paroulek and Velcz, who are 4-5 against ranked opponents and 12-6 on court one. The Bears’ other duos are unranked but have been relatively successful with Badenhorst and Luc Koenig at 11-6 and Christopher Frantzen and Oskar Brostrom Poulsen at 8-5 this spring.

Texas will field one ranked doubles tandem, with the only guaranteed member being Spizziri, as he is featured with Cleeve Harper at No. 17 and with Siem Woldeab at No. 35. Other pairings include Braswell/Harper (6-0), Bailly/Talluri (8-3) and Bailly/Braswell (6-2).

The match will feature live results available online<https://www.sidearmstats.com/texas/mten/> and it will be broadcast live on Longhorn Network<https://www.espn.com/watch/player?id=7ca90a0e-7a86-4efc-8c86-ac055e0f754f>. Kris Budden will carry play-by-play duties with Jon Wiegan as the analyst.

The Bears will return from Austin briefly before heading to the Big 12 Championship in Stillwater on April 19.
