GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Baylor track and field heads to the University of Florida to take part in the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on the Percy Beard Track at the James G. Pressly Stadium.



The meet begins on Friday at 11 a.m. CT with the men’s hammer throw and the women’s 200 meters. Day Two is off and running at 8 a.m. with the women’s discus throw and is expected to wrap up with the men’s 4x400-meter relay at 6 p.m. CT.

LAST TIME OUT

Before last week’s off weekend for training, the Bears competed at LSU’s Battle in the Bayou in Baton Rouge. The women’s distance squad record four new program top-10 marks from Rachel Hickey (800 meters, 1,500 meters), Ellie Hodge (1,500 meters) and Hayden Gold (3,000-meter steeplechase). Koi Johnson also jumped to a collegiate title in the women’s triple jump, earning the highest finish for a collegian at 42-9. Molly Haywood and Alencia Lentz, the pole vaulters at the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, ended their competition with a medal as well, tying for second in the women’s university/college elite section.



AT THE TOP

She is three weeks removed from the program-record setting long jump at the Clyde Hart Classic, but Alexis Brown’s 21-11 still is the best jump of the 2024 outdoor competition so far in NCAA Division I competition. In the world list this season, the senior ranks at No. 22.



MORE BEARS IN THE RANKINGS

The TFRRS outdoor performance list features nine Bears in the national top 25, led by Alexis Brown in the No. 1 spot. Nathaniel Ezekiel (third- 400mH), the men’s 4x100-meter relay (sixth), Molly Haywood (seventh- pole vault) and Alencia Lentz (seventh- pole vault) each join Brown in the single digits while the women’s 4x100-meter relay is 10th, Demar Francis is 11th in the 400 meters, Koi Johnson is 13th in the triple jump and the men’s 4x400-meter relay is 15th from the 3:05.68 ran at LSU.



DISTANCE CREW AT THE BRYAN CLAY

Members of the BU distance crew, with head cross country coach David Barnett, are headed to Azusa, Calif., to run in the Bryan Clay Invitational. BACK IN COMPETITION

For the first time in 2024, Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi is back and throwing the javelin for the Bears in college competition. The two-time All-American began his junior season in Ghana, where he won the African Games title in the event with a new Nigerian record of 271-8.
