Baylor Soccer Takes Down UCF, 2-1
Bears pick up road win in first meeting against the Knights

THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas – Baylor soccer defeated UCF, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex.

The Bears got things started early in the first half as they were able to find a goal in the 13th minute. With an assist from Hannah Augustyn, Salma Simonin headed in her second goal in as many games to give the Bears an early 1-0 lead.

Just under three minutes later, UCF capitalized with a goal of its own and knotted the game at 1-1.

BU ended the first half with the slight 7-6 shot advantage, with five different Bears taking shots.

Tyler Isgrig put two shots on frame in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but the UCF had both a goalkeeper and team save to keep the ball out of the net.

Baylor was able to capitalize off of a set piece in the 82nd minute to put the Bears on top, 2-1. After the service from Theresa McCullough, Hallie Augustyn found the back of the net for her second time this season.

With just eight minutes left, the Baylor defense was able to hold UCF to just one shot, which goalkeeper Ashlee Zirkel saved.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   The Bears ended the game with five shots from seven different players
  *   Salma Simonin netted her second career goal
  *   Hanna Augustyn picked up her second assist of the season
  *   Ashlee Zirkel made four saves, while facing seven shots
  *   BU’s .818 shot on goal percentage is the highest in any game this season
  *   Tyler Isgrig totaled four shots, all of them on goal
  *   Seven Bears played the full 90 minutes
  *   This marks the Bears first ever win over the Knights
  *   BU is now 3-3-1 in conference play, and have not recorded a loss in the past four games

WHAT'S NEXT
The Bears will return home to face Cincinnati on Thursday, Oct. 12, before heading to Fort Worth, Texas to face TCU on Sunday, Oct. 15.
