Baylor MT Finishes Time at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. – Baylor men’s tennis wrapped up its stint at the ITA All-American Championships at the Case Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon. The Bears tallied 18 wins throughout the six days of competition and advanced two through the prequalifying draw into the qualifiers.



THE RUNDOWN

The pre-qualifying round saw advancement from two Bears: Luc Koenig and Marko Miladinović.



Koenig tallied three two-set wins over Charlie Berry (Memphis), Billy Blaydes (Auburn) and Connor Krug (Duke) while winning a three-set battle 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 against Tulane’s Luc Hoeigmans. Miladinović made quick work in the pre-qualifying singles draw, defeating Tassine Smiej (LMU), Anthony Weingarten (Kennesaw State), Mikael Vollback (Northern Illinois) and Mark Mandlik (Oklahoma) all in just two sets.



Ethan Muza also opened his first pre-qualifying round with a win as he went 6-4, 6-4 over Luca Pow from Wake Forest while Christopher Frantzen took a win over Arkansas Razorback Connor Smillie, 6-3, 6-3.



Martin Breysach, who dropped his first-round match against Lucas Horve from Illinois, took a win from Lars Johann from Nebraska in a consolation match, 6-4, 6-3.



Moving into the qualifiers, Luc Koenig continued his win streak against Enrique Luque Rico from UC Irvine, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. He then went on to lose the round of 64 matchup to Arizona’s Jay Friend, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. Miladinovic, who dropped his first round, took a win in a qualifying consolation match over Michael Minasyan from Wisconsin, 6-4, 6-1.



Zsombor Velcz also won his first qualifying round match against Rebel Lukas Engelhardt from Ole Miss, 6-1, 6-3. The sophomore then was defeated in round two, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, by TCU’s Pedro Vivies.



Oskar Brostrom Poulsen and Breysach, the No. 48 doubles team in the nation, won two doubles qualifying matches over pairs from UC Berkeley and Florida. The duo was set to face off against Illinois’ Lucas Horve and Oliver Okonkwo but recorded a walkover due to an injury sustained by Brostrom Poulsen in the qualifying singles round of 64.



With the main draw beginning on Wednesday, Tadeas Paroulek took a win from Mississippi State’s Petar Jovanovic, 6-3, 6-4, before Michael Zheng from Columbia took the round two match, 6-2, 6-4 on Thursday afternoon.



In the doubles main draw, Paroulek and Velcz dropped the opening-round matchup to the Ohio State pair of Robert Cash and JJ Tracy, 6-4, 6-4, and ended their time with a consolation loss from Illinois’ Horve and Oliver Okonkow, 4-6, 6-4, 10-3.
