Baylor MT Closes Fall Play with a 16-2 Showing at Big 12/Pac-12 Challenge

STILLWATER, Okla. – The 47th-ranked Baylor men’s tennis team had one final tournament penciled in the 2023 fall schedule, and they closed it with great success. Over the three-day event playing athletes from No. 40 Arizona State and No. 45 Washington, the Bears posted a 16-2 record with only two dropped singles matches.



THE RUNDOWN

As was the case all three days, Friday began with a doubles sweep. Martin Breysach and Oskar Brostrom Poulsen defeated Nedim Suko and Dzianis Zharyn from Washington, 8-5, while Ethan Muza and Christopher Frantzen beat Han-Chih Lin and Brett Pearson, 8-7(4).



In singles play, Brostrom Poulsen and Breysach both took straight-set wins, while Muza defeated ASU’s Jacob Bullard, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Frantzen tabbed his first loss of the weekend after falling 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 to ASU’s Roi Ginat.



Saturday opened with doubles wins over two teams from Arizona State. Brostrom Poulsen and Breysach beat Bullard and Constantinos Koshis, 8-5, as Muza and Frantzen took down Ginat and Martin Vergara Del Puerto, 8-5.



Every Bear took a win in Saturday’s singles. Breysach was the only Bear that forced three sets and won the close match in a 9-7 tiebreaker.



Sunday morning featured BU facing a swapped Washington doubles lineup, but the Bears still took down the Huskies on both courts.



Brostrom Poulsen, Muza and Breysach all earned their third singles win of the tournament over Arizona State, while Bullard defeated Frantzen, 6-3, 6-1.
