SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Baylor men’s golf remained in 30th place following a second-round 297 on Saturday at Grayhawk Golf Club, bringing its two-day total to 41-over 601.

Johnny Keefer carded his best round of the week with a 2-over 72 to move into a tie for 67th individually. The junior will enter the third round attempting to qualify for the fourth and final round by finishing as one of the top nine individuals on a non-advancing team. He is currently three shots back of the individual cutline entering Sunday.

Illinois was one of two teams to shoot under par on Saturday and vaulted to the top of the leaderboard with a 7-under 273 for a 36-hole total of 2-under 558. The field will be cut to the top-15 teams and top-nine individuals on non-advancing teams at the conclusion on the third round.

THE RUNDOWN
Starting on the back nine, Keefer opened with four-straight pars before his first blemish of the day came with a bogey at No. 14. The senior then strung together six-straight pars as he made the turn to his second nine at 1-over. Keefer hit a beautiful approach into No. 3, resulting in a short birdie putt, which he converted to get back to even par. He made a pair of bogeys coming in at Nos. 7 and 9 to sign for his 72.

Luke Dossey battled his way to a 4-over 74 on Saturday to pull into a tie for 127th. The senior started with four-straight pars before dipping into red figures with a birdie at No. 14, thanks to a brilliant approach shot. Dossey gave a pair of strokes back at No. 15 with a double bogey, followed by another double at No. 18 to make the turn with a 3-over 38. A bogey at No. 1 opened his second nine, but he birdied No. 7 to get back to 3-over before making one final bogey at No. 6.

Tyler Isenhart is tied for 96th after the second round on the heels of a 5-over 75 on Saturday. The Geneva, Ill., native made a pair of early bogeys at Nos. 12 and 13 and added two more at Nos. 16 and 17 to close out his first nine with a 4-over 39. After making the turn, Isenhart carded a birdie at No. 2 to get a stroke back, but bogeys at Nos. 4 and 7 dropped him back to 5-over. A tight tee shot at No. 8 netted his second birdie of the day before notching a closing bogey at No. 9.

Zach Heffernan shot a 6-over 76 and finished Saturday in a tie for 147th. The sophomore began with three-straight pars before his first bogey of the day came at No. 13. Following the bogey, he strung together five-straight pars to make the turn at 1-over. Heffernan started his inward nine with two bogeys in his first three holes but picked up his first birdie of the tournament at No. 4. A double bogey at No. 5 and a bogey at No. 6 cost him three more shots before his final bogey came on his final hole of the day at No. 9.
Drew Wrightson carded a 7-over 77 to tie for 149th, entering the third round. The sophomore cruised early in the round with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 11 and 12 to reach 2-under par. A wayward tee ball at No. 16 cost him three shots with a triple bogey, followed by bogeys at Nos. 17 and 18 to finish the first nine with a 3-over 38. After a pair of pars to open the second nine, Wrightson bogeyed No. 3 and fell victim to an unplayable lie, resulting in another triple bogey at No. 6 to drop to 7-over for the day and 16-over for the tournament.
