SAN MARCOS, Texas – No. 21 Baylor Softball took down Texas State, 3-2, Wednesday night in eight innings at Bobcat Softball Stadium.

The Bears, now 25-8 on the season, complete the second of two midweek wins to start the week 2-0.

Emily Hott hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth to secure the Bears’ win on the road.

THE RUNDOWN

The Bears struck first in the matchup, putting a run on the board in the top of the second. After a leadoff single from Ana Watson and a walk issued to Emily Hott, a sacrifice bunt from Presleigh Pilon moved the runners to second and third. Shaylon Govan then hit a sacrifice fly to center field and plated Watson from third.

The Bobcats answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third, with a single up the middle knotting the game at 1-1.

Baylor was able to eliminate a threat in the bottom of the fourth when a throw out at home plate and a runner thrown out stealing ended the inning.

Baylor strung together three singles in the top of the fifth, but pinch-runner Ashlyn Wachtendorf was thrown out at home plate.

Texas State took the lead in the bottom half of the fifth when a runner came around to score after a leadoff error.

With Baylor down to its last chance to extend the game, Govan singled and Josie Bower walked before a sac bunt moved the runners over in the top of the seventh. With two outs, Amber Toven singled up the middle and tied the game at 2-2.

Hott wasted no time in the top of the eighth, knocking a one-out home run to the deepest part of the field and putting the Bears up 3-2.

A three-up, three-down bottom of the eighth secured the Bears’ win.
