WACO, Texas – Baylor acrobatics & tumbling earned two of the three possible weekly awards from the NCATA, the organization announced Wednesday.

Kamryn Kitchens was named Athlete of the Week while Jordan Gruendler earned Specialist of the Week after their performances in the wins over Frostburg State on Mar. 22 and Quinnipiac on Mar. 25 at the Ferrell Center.

Kitchens, a senior top and tumbler from Kennesaw, Ga., competed in 20 heats and both team events across the two meets. She earned a perfect 10 in the Compulsory Toss against Frostburg as a top and in her individual Aerial Tumbling Pass against Quinnipiac. She is the first Bear since 2017 to earn a 10 in that pass. Kitchens was dominant and steady in all heats she competed in, with her scores barely wavering between the two meets. This is Kitchens’ third time earning the award this season.

Gruendler, a San Antonio, Texas native, competed as a top in the first and third pyramid heats in both meets for the Bears. In those, she is a top with only one mid-level base – a master of both flexibility and balance. The heat 1 pyramid, or the Inversion Pyramid, earned a perfect 10 in both the meet against FSU and QU, the respective third and fourth time the “Tower of Terror” has earned the score this season.

With Gruendler’s latest accolade, BU has now earned the Specialist award after each week of competition this season. This is Gruendler’s third time earning the accolade, the first being in week two of competition and second in week six, with Riley Chimwala earning it in week one and Bayley Humphrey earning it in week three.

The Bears complete a three-meet homestand with the competition against Oregon on Saturday, April 1. To help fill the Ferrell, tickets are available for $1 at BaylorBears.com/tickets. It will also be Senior Day, with Baylor honoring seven graduates.
