STILLWATER, Okla. – Despite hitting a season-high four home runs and tying a single-game best with 14 hits, Baylor baseball (9-14, 2-3) dropped a 15-8 ballgame to No. 15 Oklahoma State (19-5, 3-2) Saturday night at O’Brate Stadium in Stillwater, Okla.

Sophomores Cortlan Castle and Hunter Teplanszky each hit their first-career homers, while redshirt freshman Gavin Brzozowski moved into a tie for the team lead with his third of the season. Teplanszky became the first Bear with a multi-HR game as he crushed his first two in the green and gold.

BU pitchers surrendered 12 walks, as opposed to OSU’s two, which made the difference in the ballgame as the Cowboys turned seven free passes into runs to clinch the series.

THE RUNDOWN
OSU broke out the bats early with a solo home run in the first and a five-spot in the second to go ahead 6-1. Another two solo home runs, a bases loaded walk, a BU error and an RBI single accounted for the Cowboys runs in the bottom of the second frame, following Castle’s solo blast in the top half which put the Bears on the board.

In the fourth, things continued to unravel for BU as seven more runs crossed the plate on six OSU hits.

However, after trailing 13-1, Baylor responded to outscore the Pokes 7-2 over the final five frames of the night. Teplanszky hit the first of his two blasts in the top of the fifth, then crushed a two-run shot in the seventh to make it 13-4. With the wind howling out to right, Brzozowski hit a ball that cleared the visitor’s bullpen for another two BU runs.

After OSU answered with a pair in the bottom of the seventh, Baylor would get those two runs right back in the eighth thanks to a two-run single off the bat of Hunter Simmons, who is hitting .518 (14-for-27) over his last seven games.

The Bears threatened for more in the ninth, but left two runners on as a sharp line out to right to end the ballgame.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Mitch Thompson
On tonight’s game…
"We’ve got to try to not put ourselves in that position [down 12 runs]. Today is kind of a function of both days. Yesterday, our bullpen was fantastic, but we were into our bullpen in the fourth inning. That’s too early. It wears your bullpen out. Today, we’re in it again in the fourth inning, couldn’t get out of that fourth inning. If we keep doing that, our bullpen’s not going to be able to hold up that long. The guys are competing hard, they’re doing a good job, and the hitters continued to try and put up some runs. They used the elements to their advantage, hit a few balls out, but at the end of the day we’re seven runs down. We’ve got a lot of work to do. Good news is, tomorrow’s a new day. Tomorrow we’re going to get a chance to come out here and salvage a win. We’ve got some guys available that we made the decision to save for tomorrow, and we’re going to go try to win it.”

WHAT’S NEXT
Baylor (9-14, 2-3) looks to salvage the series against No. 15 Oklahoma State (19-5, 3-2) on Sunday at O’Brate Stadium in Stillwater, Okla. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
