WACO, Texas – Baylor track and field completed the first day of its home opening Clyde Hart Classic at the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium on Friday.



Gary Moore Jr. had a big day in the hammer throw to set a new program record, while Koi Johnson (long jump), Imaobong Uko (200m) and Ryan Day (1,500m) won their individual events.



THE RUNDOWN

Moore Jr., who set the weight throw program record in his first collegiate meet, set the hammer throw school record in his second outdoor meet. The freshman threw a 199-1 chunk to set the record, formerly held by Cole Hardan, who finished seventh in the event throwing a 184-2.



Johnson was the women’s long jump champion, jumping to the 19-9 mark. Nikayla Fitzgerald had a big jump in her collegiate outdoor opener, winning the bronze medal for 19-2 ½. Keviah Ealy matched Firtgerald’s mark, finishing fourth.



Sophomore Uko won the women’s 200 meters after a PR of 23.21 on the track. Kavia Francis came in second with a 23.60 and Michaela Francois was next up in sixth running a 23.99.



Day clocked an impressive 3:46.90 in the 1,500 meters to win the event and find spot No. 9 all time on the BU program record list. He was followed by Noah Monroy in his spring opener at third and Ryan Hodge in 10th.



Demar Francis ran a 20.54-second race in the men’s 200 meters to win the silver medal. Matthew Moorer, fresh off of his NCAA Indoor 400 bronze medal campaign, crossed in third with Kamden Jackson in fourth, Dillon Bedell in fifth, De’montray Callis in seventh and Ricquan Graham in eighth.



A pack of Bears ran together in the 1,500 meters, but Sophia Leidner emerged as the leader to cross the finish in third with a PR of 4:36.40. Jordan Ledington finished in seventh place before Catherine Urbani in 11th and Abigail Morris in 17th.



Alexandra Scott ran a 1:02.11 in the 400-meter hurdles to take the bronze medal in her first collegiate outdoor race. She was followed by Audrey Williamson in fifth.



Returning to another throws event, Moore Jr. hit 171-2 in the discus throw and won the bronze medal. Makayla Long also won the bronze medal in the women’s event at 157-7.



In the women’s hammer throw, Victoria Adu led the Bears with a fifth-place finish at 172-0. Just an inch behind, Hannah Link finished sixth and Long came in 10th.



Aren Spencer advanced to the final three jumps of the men’s long jump competition and took eighth overall.



WHAT’S NEXT

The Bears host Day Two of the Clyde Hart Classic on Saturday. Field events start at 11:30 a.m. with the women’s javelin, while running events begin at 2:30 p.m.
