Bears take 9.7-point win over Bobcats in Ferrell

WACO, Texas – In a battle of the unbeatens, No. 1 Baylor acrobatics & tumbling took the win over No. 12 Frostburg on Wednesday night in the Ferrell Center, 283.210-273.510.

The Bears (5-0) only dropped one heat in the 9.7-point win over the Bobcats (6-1).

THE RUNDOWN

Starting off the meet, Baylor had a Compulsory score of 38.55 with a perfect 10.0 in Toss, the first of the season in any Compulsory heat. Also high-scoring was Pyramid, scoring a 9.95. Frostburg scored a 37.50 with their best score coming in Toss at 9.95.

Moving into the optional portion of the meet, Baylor had a score of 9.95 in Heat 1, 9.65 in Heat 2 and 9.75 in Heat 3 of Acro to total 29.35 for the event. The Bobcats had a 9.7, 9.5 and 9.65, respectively, for a total of 28.85. Going into the Pyramid event, BU was up 67.90 to 66.35.

In the Pyramid event, the Bears earned their second 10 of the meet, coming in Heat 1, the inversion heat. It was the third time this season that the “Tower of Terror” garnered the perfect score. In heat two, BU earned a 9.90 and a 9.95 in heat three. With the event scoring a 29.85, the running total was updated to 97.75 for Baylor. Frostburg totaled 29.70 for the event and had a score of 96.05 going into halftime.

In the Toss Event, Baylor had scores of 9.60, 9.70 and 9.75, respectively, to total 29.05 for the event. The Bobcats scored a 9.40, 9.40 and 9.90, respectively, to total 28.20 and won Heat 3. Going into the fifth event, Tumbling, the Bears were up 126.80 to the 124.25 from FSU.

In the Tumbling Event, Heat 1 (Duo) with senior Kamryn Kitchens and freshman Aliyah “Chibi” Thomas scored a 9.65. In the Trio Heat (Heat 2), Kamryn Kitchens, Aliyah Kaloostian and Rakel Jeffries scored a 9.15. The Quad Pass (Heat 3) had Katie Shiffer, Gianna Cameron, Savanna Cecil and Emily Tobin score a 9.50. The Aerial pass from Kitchens earned a 9.925, McCain in the 6 Element pass (Heat 5) had a 9.825 and Cecil in the Open pass (Heat 6) earned a 9.95. The Bears’ total came to 58.00 for the event while the Bobcats scored a 54.90. Going into the nights final event, BU was up 184.800 to 179.150 from Frostburg.

In the Team event, Baylor earned a score of 98.41 while FSU earned a 94.36, bringing the meet score to a total of 283.210 to 273.510, BU taking the win.
