WACO, Texas – No. 21 Baylor softball launched three home runs in its 8-5 win over Houston Saturday afternoon at Getterman Stadium.

The Bears, now 21-5 on the season, record their first multi-home run game since the 2021 National Invitational Softball Championship last season, where they hit five in their win over North Alabama.

THE RUNDOWN
The Bears started off the game hot, when Sydney Collazos launched a two-RBI home run over the wall in left field to extend her hitting streak to four-straight.

Baylor got on the board again in the second inning, after Josie Bower got in on the home run action and hit her first long ball of the season over the wall in left-center field and put the Bears ahead, 3-0.

Shaylon Govan singled and Collazos doubled in the third inning, but no runs came home.

After a leadoff hit by pitch in the fourth inning, Bower doubled to score Ana Watson and then McKenzie Wilson singled up the middle with two outs to bring the Bears’ lead to 5-0.

The Cougars had a big inning in the top of the fifth, plating four runs after a hit, a bases loaded HBP and a sacrifice fly.

With the Bears clinging to a 5-4 lead, Watson added an insurance run after Collazos singled and Watson followed it up with a triple to left center.

Baylor brought its lead to 8-4 in the bottom of the sixth, when Amber Toven blasted a two-run shot over the wall in right field and also brought home Ashlyn Wachtendorf, who hit a bunt single earlier in the inning.

Houston added a run in the top of the seventh, but a strikeout and fly out ended the threat and secured the Bears’ 8-5 victory.

HIGHLIGHTS
Sydney Collazos, now 6-for-7 on the weekend, was a triple short of hitting for the cycle. She hit her first home run of the season and the fourth of her career, while also recording a double and a single.

Josie Bower and Amber Toven also hit home runs in the game. Baylor has now hit 12 long balls on the season.

Four Bears had a multi-hit game, with Baylor totaling 12 hits on the day. This marks Baylor’s sixth game of the season with 12 or more hits.

Ashlyn Wachtendorf recorded her first hit of the season.

Kaci West and RyLee Crandall combined in the circle, with West recording the win and Crandall picking up the save.

WHAT’S NEXT
Baylor will close out the three-game series with Houston Sunday, March 19, taking on the Cougars in the series finale at 1 p.m. CT at Getterman Stadium.
