STORY LINES

• Baylor Softball is set to host Houston for its first three-game weekend series of the season. The Bears are playing the Cougars for the 38th time in program history and BU leads the all-time record, 22-15.

• The last time these two teams faced off was during the 2021 season and the teams split two games, Houston winning the first and Baylor taking the second one.

• The Bears are continuing a five-game home stand, that began with the two games against SDSU. The Bears split two games against the Jackrabbits, falling in game one, 5-2, and shutting them out, 3-0, in game two.

• BU spent last week at the Louisville Slugger Invitational in Long Beach, Calif., and went 1-2 in the tournament, defeating game one host Cal State Fullerton and falling against Boston University and Long Beach State in back-to-back games. Those losses marked the Bears first back-to-back losses of the season.

• The Bears were scheduled to play two more games in the tournament but it was cut short due to weather, those spots were filled with the two games against SDSU during the week.

• Maintaining their position in the polls, Baylor is now ranked No. 20 in the D1Softball poll. The Bears are also ranked No. 20 in the Softball America Poll and come in at No. 20 in the ESPN poll and No. 21 in the NFCA coaches’ poll.

• Baylor is currently second in the Big 12 in pitching ERA, with a 1.90 team ERA. The only team above the Bears is No. 1 ranked Oklahoma.

• BU also leads the Big 12 in sacrifice bunts (17), sacrifice fly’s (12) and stolen bases (48).

• McKenzie Wilson ended her on-base streak, which dated back to last season, at 35. That streak is good for third all-time in the Baylor record books, one short of tying Lindsey Cargill for second place at 36. She reached base in both of BU’s midweek games against SDSU.

• Wilson also leads the Big 12 in stolen bases (13), while Presleigh Pilon follows behind her in third place with 9.

• Dariana Orme picked up a win over Cal State Fullerton, after pitching a seven-inning complete-game in the Bears 5-2 win over the Titans. She tossed five shut-out innings and struck out seven. She was 2-1 over the last week, striking out nine and only allowing two hits against the Jackrabbits.

• Before last week, Baylor’s 17-2 start tied for the best start in program history, which dates back to the 2011 season. The same season the Bears went all the way to the semifinals in the Women’s College World Series.

• Shaylon Govan leads the Bears with a .426 batting average with four doubles, six home runs and 33 RBI. She is currently 7th in the nation in runs batted in per game with 1.38 and leads the Big 12 with 32 already on the season.

• Govan is one of five Bears to have double digit RBIs already on the season. Emily Hott follows her with 17, Amber Toven has 16, McKenzie Wilson has 11 and Taylor Strain has 10.

• Hott has also been on fire with four doubles in the Bears last 10 games, while batting .393 with 11 hits.

• Sydney Collazos has led the bears over the last five games, batting .444 with a double and three RBIs. She was instrumental in the Bears win over Cal State Fullerton and drove in one of the Bears runs in the midweek win over SDSU.

• Ellington Whitaker made her first career start against SDSU. She caught all seven innings in game two behind the plate.

• BU has had 21 of 22 players see action during a game at some point this season.
• With a career record of 996-472, head coach Glenn Moore is looking for his 1,000th career win this season and is only four wins away from hitting the milestone.
