No. 21 Baylor Softball Splits Saturday Doubleheader
Bears fall to Texas A&M before a walk-off win over Sam Houston

WACO, Texas – No. 21 Baylor softball split its Saturday doubleheader at Getterman Stadium, falling 3-0 to Texas A&M and walking-off Sam Houston, 9-8, during day one of the Ode to Joy Invitational.



Baylor, now 15-2 on the season, tied the best start in program history before having the momentum snapped during the game-one loss to the Aggies.



The Bears fell behind quick against the Bearkats in game two and fought back to win in the bottom of the seventh.



THE RUNDOWN

The Bears worked six scoreless innings against the Aggies in game one, but a three-run top of the seventh sealed the deal for Texas A&M’s victory. Baylor was able to strand 10 Aggies on the bases and threw out a runner at home plate in the fifth inning to keep them off the board.



A&M pitcher Emiley Kennedy (5-1) tossed a complete-game no-hitter, holding the Bears to four walks and two hit batters through seven innings.



After falling behind Sam Houston 6-0 after the top of the second, the Bears plated their first run in the bottom of the second inning after a two-out triple from McKenzie Wilson.



After a scoreless third, the Bears got within three runs in the fourth when Presleigh Pilon doubled and Emily Hott singled.



Kaci West strung together four-straight scoreless innings before Sam Houston scored two more in the top of the seventh, extending the lead to 8-3.



Not giving up, Shannon VIvoda led off the bottom of the seventh with a double down the right-field line. With one out, Ana Watson doubled to left-center and scored Vivoda before Wilson walked and Pilon singled to load the bases. BU plated one run on a groundout to make it an 8-5 game.



After Shaylon Govan was intentionally walked to load the bases for the second time in the game, Emily Hott’s clutch double down the leftfield line plated all three runs and knotted the game at 8-8. Pinch-hitter Josie Bower then hit a walk-off single to left field to score Hott and give the Bears the, 9-8 win.



HIGHLIGHTS

Dariana Orme struck out five through 5.2 scoreless innings, bringing her season total to 41.



Wilson was a perfect 3-for-3 and Hott was 3-for-4 at the plate in the Bears’ win. Hott totaled four RBIs with a double and a walk.



Pilon and Watson also had multi-hit performances, while three other Bears tallied one hit each.



Kaci West totaled four strikeouts and only allowed two earned runs, while RyLee Crandall picked up the win, improving to 5-2 on the season.



WHAT’S NEXT

The Bears will face Sam Houston and Texas A&M to close out the final day of the Ode to Joy Invitational Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. CT, respectively.
