GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Baylor women’s golf ended Sunday a shot back of Georgia after 27 holes at the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club.

Rosie Belsham is in third place individually, one shot off the lead entering Monday, while Silje Ohma is also in the top 10, tied for seventh at 1-over.

Teams will resume round two on Monday morning and complete the event with 18 more holes in the third and final round.

THE RUNDOWN
Belsham opened with a birdie at No. 1, followed by six-straight pars, before her first bogey of the day at No. 8. The junior made another bogey at No. 10 but got it back with a birdie at No. 13, followed by five-straight pars to close out the first round. On her opening nine of the second round, Belsham made a birdie at the par-4 second to get back into red figures on the day.

Ohma wasted little time, making a birdie at No. 2 and was at 1-under through four holes before giving a shot back with a bogey at No. 5. The freshman birdied No. 9 to get back under par and reached 4-under with a birdie at No. 10 and an eagle at No. 12. She played her final six holes at 4-over, for her sixth round at par or better this season. Ohma bogeyed No. 1 to open the second round but made birdies at Nos. 3 and 5 to get back under par. She finished the day with bogeys at Nos. 6 and 9 to fall back to 1-over for the tournament.

Anika Veintemilla opened with a double bogey at No. 1, a bogey at No. 2, and a birdie at No. 3, preceded another bogey at No. 5. She got another shot back with a birdie at No. 8, followed by five-straight pars. Back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 14 and 15 dropped her to 4-over, before a final birdie at No. 16 put her in a tie for 18th after round one. The senior opened round two with a birdie at No. 1 and added another at No. 8 following her lone bogey of the front side at No. 7.

Hannah Karg is in a tie for 17th after 27 holes on Sunday, highlighted by a 1-over 73 in round one. The senior made a pair of bogeys on the front side at Nos. 3 and 7 for a 2-over 38. On the back nine, Karg strung together a pair of birdies at Nos. 11 and 12 and added another at No. 15, sandwiched around bogeys at Nos. 14 and 16 to close out round one. Karg opened round two with bogeys at Nos. 3, 5, 6 and 7, closing the day with a birdie at No. 9.

After an opening bogey, Britta Snyder made seven-straight bogeys, beginning at No. 5, until a birdie at No. 12 broke the string. She played her final seven holes at 1-under, including a birdie at No. 18 to close out the first round. The junior shot a 3-over 39 to open the second round and is currently tied for 47th.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Rosie Belsham led the field in par-4 scoring average.
  *   Belsham is the only player in the field who played the par-4’s under par, and her 22 pars were the most in the field.
  *   Silje Ohma was one of three players in the field to make an eagle on Sunday.
  *   Baylor’s 19 birdies tied for the most in the field.
  *   The Bears tied for the best team par-5 scoring average at 4.90.

Head coach Jay Goble – “This is a great golf course that really tests your patience. I thought we did a very good job of taking care of our controllables and fighting for every shot we could save. I’m proud of how they started, and we now just need to hit one shot at a time tomorrow."
