WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Baylor Acrobatics & Tumbling took home five Event Titles on Sunday at the NCATA Championships, earning at least one in all four events.

The Bears led all teams in individual event titles with five, followed by Quinnipiac with four, Gannon and Oregon with two, and Azusa Pacific and Frostburg State with one.

THE RUNDOWN

The Bears earned the Six-Element Acro title with pairs Emily Tobin and Riley Chimwala, Kamryn Kitchens and Bailey Baughn, and Adelaide Vezzosi and Ellie LaNeve and with counter Morgan Brown. BU earned a 9.60 out of a possible 10.0 to become champions. This was just the second Six-Element Acro title for Baylor in program history.

Earning a 9.85/10, the Seven-Element Acro title went to top Jordan Gruendler, base Bayley Humphrey and counter Aliyah Kaloostian. Gruendler performs the “ring” and “pencil”, all on a single base. With the title, Gruendler and Humphrey are back-to-back Seven-Element Acro champions and the fourth all-time to earn the individual championship.

After an initial tie with Gannon, the two teams competed their pyramids a second time and the Bears came out on top with a 9.90/10 to take the Synchronized Pyramid title. The two tops were Tobin and Kitchens with mid-level bases Chimwala and Humphrey. The main bases were Layla Alexander and Brown, along with Kaloostian and Brennah Cotner. Also in the event are Katie Shiffer, Emi Nelson, Bailey Baughn, Addi Grandy, Zoë Collins, Meredith Wells, LaNeve and Kensey Schilhab with counter Alayja Reynolds. This was the third Synchronized Pyramid title for Baylor.

The Bears took home the 450 Salto Toss title after earning a score of 9.7/10 with Kitchens as the top and bases Mariah Polk, Baughn, Nelson and Cotner. Baylor has earned just one title for this toss previously.

Earning a score of 9.95/10, Kitchens was named the Open Tumbling Pass Champion. She is just the second Bear to earn that title.

With the Bears’ five trophies, the all-time individual title count for Baylor comes to 43.
