WACO, Texas - No. 18 Baylor Softball defeated Texas State, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon at Getterman Stadium.

The Bears, now 35-13 on the season, won it in five innings after the game was called in the top or the sixth inning due to a tornado warning.

THE RUNDOWN

The Bears got off to a hot start when Kaci West and the Baylor defense sat the Bobcats down in order in the first inning before taking the lead in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs, Shaylon Govan launched her 10th home run of the season over the fence in right-center field and gave Baylor the 1-0 lead.

After a leadoff walk in the top of the second, the Bears capitalized on a 2-4-7 sacrifice-bunt double play that erased the runner.

The Bears got on the board again in the bottom of the third after McKenzie Wilson walked and Govan brought her home with a double down the right-field line.

Baylor worked out of a jam in the top of the fourth, when the Bobcats got their first two runners on base with a single and a walk. Back-to-back fielder’s choice grounders got the lead runner out at third before a groundout to second base ended the threat.

Ana Watson led off the bottom of the fourth with a single to left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With one out, Josie Bower reached on an error and advanced to second, as Watson came around to score after the ball was called dead.

With the 3-0 lead, the Bears set the Bobcats down in order in the fifth. Singles by Ashlyn Wachtendorf and Sydney Collazos put runners on the corner in the bottom half of the inning, but the Bears couldn’t push across another run.

With the first batter in the top of the sixth in the batter’s box, the tornado sirens on campus sounded and the game was called off due to tornado warnings in the area. With the game through five complete, the game was called complete and the Bears won, 3-0.
