WACO, Texas – Baylor track and field opened the Michael Johnson Invitational on a beautiful Friday with a full day of action at the Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium.



Noah Monroy gave BU its first win of the meet, while the Bears claimed six other collegiate podium finishes.



THE RUNDOWN

Showing out in the 5,000 meters, Monroy stormed through the last 300 meters to go 14:28.91 and win Baylor’s lone medal of the day. Devin Duran finished 12th and freshman Caleb Ackman ran unattached for 16th.



In the women’s 5k, Sophia Leidner stayed in the lead pack for the entirety of the race to finish second with a 16:50.54 PR before Jordan Ledington and Cate Urbani went seventh and eighth, respectively. All three



In the hammer throw, Makayla Long hit a big PR of 172-10 to finish ninth in the event behind Hannah Link (174-0) who was in eighth. Gary Moore Jr. led the men in the event, flinging for 190-4 and a collegiate bronze before Cooper Mack’s 167-7 PR for 9th place.



Mariah Ayers was the second collegian to finish in the 200-meter field of 73, putting up a season-best 22.78 in the half-lap race. Michael Francois was the next Bear, finding overall spot No. 15



The birthday girl, Koi Johnson, jumped to a 20-5 ¼ result in the long jump for a fourth-place result before Luke Anthony hit a 22-3 ½ PR in the men’s competition.



Florida transfer Jackie Addy crossed the finish in the fourth spot sporting a 4:35.35 mark in the 1,500 meters, followed by Hayden Gold in 10th and Abby Morris in 19th. In the men’s race, Ryan Day found second with a personal-best 3:46.29 before Ryan Hodge took 16th.



There was another new PB for Saturday in the pole vault competition, where freshman Lillianna Ifft finished as the seventh-place collegian at 12-8 ¼. Tenly Kuhn was one bar behind at 12-2 ½ for 10th place.



Jasmine Gryne opened the day on the track with a collegiate third-place finish in the 400mH, running a 1:00.40 before Allie Scott’s 1:00.95 for sixth.



Hasasi Barr was the highest-placing Bear in the men’s 200 meters, running a 21.04-second race in front of the home crowd. De’montray Callis finished 25th and Dillon Bedell followed in 27th.



Long qualified to the final throws of the discus, while Moore Jr. ended his double-event day in 16th in the men’s edition.



WHAT’S NEXT

The Bears continue the Michael Johnson Invitational on Saturday. Field events begin at 11 a.m., followed by running events at noon.
