FORT WORTH, Texas -- Liubov Kostenko and Brooke Thompson posted a first-round win over the 10th seeded pair from SMU to lead Baylor women’s tennis in the first day of the ITA Texas Regionals, hosted by TCU on Thursday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.



Kostenko – a native of Ukraine – and Thompson highlighted the first day for the Bears, taking down SMU’s Lana Mavor and Drew Morris, seeded No. 10, 8-5.



A sophomore out of Oklahoma City, Okla., Thompson advanced to the round of 32 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Lamar’s Megan Do to open Baylor’s singles competition. She then fell vs. Houston’s Gabriel Cortes, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (3).



In doubles, Paula Barañano and Daniella Dimitrov advanced to the second round with a bye and will face Abilene Christian’s Masha Vrsalovic and Andrea Guerrero at 3 p.m.
