WACO, Texas – Coming off five-straight sweeps, the 14th-ranked Baylor volleyball team will host the Baylor Classic on Thursday and Friday in the Ferrell Center, welcoming McNeese, Sam Houston and Tulsa for the two-day tournament.

The Bears (7-2) are coming off a three-set sweep of North Texas on Tuesday, where they held the Mean Green to just six points in the first set, the fewest a BU team has allowed in a 25-point set in program history. It was also the third match in a row where Baylor held an opponent to less than .100 attack percentage.

BU is currently on a nine-match winning streak at home, dating back to the Texas match in November of 2021 where the Bears defeated the Longhorns, 3-1. Baylor’s streak of five-straight sweeps started against UC Santa Barbara in the Pepperdine Asics Classic.

In the Ryan McGuyre era, the Bears are 47-17 in non-conference tournaments. They look to improve on that with the three-match Baylor Classic.

The tournament will start off with McNeese facing Sam Houston at 4 p.m. on Thursday, followed by Tulsa vs. Baylor at 6 p.m. Tulsa is 5-4 overall with a 1-2 record on the road and 4-2 at neutral sites. The Golden Hurricane come to Waco after defeating Abilene Christian, Oral Roberts and UTEP in the ORU Golden Eagle Classic. Baylor leads the all-time series 4-2, but Tulsa won the only previous matchup in the Ferrell Center.

Friday’s matchups will start at 10 a.m. with McNeese facing Tulsa, then Baylor versus Sam Houston at 12 p.m. Sam Houston comes to Waco with a 3-8 record overall for the season and is on a five-match losing streak after falling to Ole Miss, Texas State and Wake Forest in the Bobcat Invitational, Texas A&M on the road and Indiana in Texas A&M Corpus Christi’s Islander Classic. The Bearkats lead the all-time series with Baylor at 24-16, but BU is on a seven-match winning streak against the Kats and leads 9-5 at home.

Following BU-SHSU, Tulsa will play the Kats at 5 p.m. before Baylor faces McNeese at 7 p.m. McNeese is currently 3-8 on the season with head coach Sasha Karelov in her first season in Lake Charles, La. The Cowgirls are coming off a 1-2 weekend at the UTSA Invitational against UTSA, UT Arlington and South Florida. The all-time series between Baylor and McNeese is led by the Bears at 5-0, with a 4-0 record against the Cowgirls in Waco.

The Baylor match with Tulsa will be streamed by Big 12 Now on ESPN+, with former Baylor volleyball All-American Katie Smith and “Voice of the Bears” John Morris on the call versus the Golden Hurricane. Live stats for the match can be found at BaylorBears.com/Stats.

A full recap and final box score will be available on BaylorBears.com after the conclusion of the match.
