LUBBOCK, Texas – Baylor cross country ran in the Big 12 Championships on Friday morning at LCU’s Chaparral Ridge Cross Country Course. The women finished the race in sixth place, while the men finished seventh overall.

THE RUNDOWN

Ellie Hodge led the women in their 6k race on a muddy and wet course on Friday, finishing in 24th with a time of 21:55.0. She was followed by Sophia Leidner in 31st place, Cate Urbani in 39th place, Taylor Whitfield in 47th place and Jordan Ledington in 52nd place. Hayden Gold followed shortly behind the top-5, finishing in 54th. The women scored 180 points, which landed them sixth, in front of Kansas State, Kansas, Texas Tech and TCU.

In his fourth meet of the year, Ryan Day led the men for the fourth time this season. Day finished seven spots and 15 seconds outside of the All-Big 12 range, crossing the line in 22nd place and a time of 24:59.3. Also scoring for Baylor was Drew Snyder in 37th, Ryan Hodge in 46th, Noah Monroy in 59th and Ethan Wrase in 71st. Devin Duran crossed the line in 76th place. Combined, the squad tallied 195 points, enough for seventh place.

QUOTABLE

Head Cross Country Coach David Barnett

On today’s race…

“Overall, both squads gave great effort. The results weren’t quite what I think we’re capable of, but there has certainly been progress made. Ryan Day had his best career conference finish and led the men, while Ellie Hodge put herself in a great position early and held onto a very solid finish. At this point we need to recover, reset and get ready for the NCAA South Central Regional meet in two weeks. I’m optimistic that we still have our best races ahead of us there.”

WHAT’S NEXT

The Bears return to the Dale Watts Course in Bryan-College Station for the NCAA South Central Regional on Nov. 11 to fight for a spot to the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Okla. The race is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m., with live results provided by FlashResults.
