Baylor VB’s Carlson Earns Big 12 Rookie of the Week
Freshman earned award after recording three-straight double-doubles

IRVING, Texas – Averi Carlson of the No. 13-ranked Baylor volleyball team has earned her third Rookie of the Week honor from the Big 12, the conference announced Tuesday.

Carlson, a freshman setter, earned the award after recording her second- and third-straight double-doubles against Texas Tech and Kansas State, respectively. The last Bear to record three double-doubles in a row was Yossiana Pressley, who accomplished the feat in the first three matches of the 2021 season.

Carlson led the Big 12 in total assists with 102 during the week, averaging 12.75 assists per set over the two matches. Against the Red Raiders at home, she had 48 assists over the four sets, averaging 12 assists per set. On the road facing the Wildcats, the Lucas, Texas, native had 54 assists for a career high and averaged 13.5 over the four sets.

The freshman had the final point against KSU to end the match; a perfect dump over the net to serve as the exclamation point.

This being her third weekly honor, the Bears have now had five out of the nine possible Rookie accolades from the league. Only she and one other student-athlete have earned three weekly awards this season out of any category.

The Bears return to the road to face Oklahoma on Wednesday night in Norman with match time set for 6 p.m. in McCasland Fieldhouse. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats can be found at BaylorBears.com/stats.
