Baylor MT Records Eight Wins in Day Two of ITA Regionals

WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis completed the second day of play on Friday in the ITA Division I Texas Regional Championships. In two rounds of doubles play and one round of singles, the Bears put up an 8-4 record for the day.



THE RUNDOWN

First-seeded Tadeas Paroulek battled against UT Arlington’s Anton Shepp in the opening round of the main singles draw, defeating the Maverick, 7-5, 7-5. Pairing with first-semester freshman, Zsombor Velcz, the duo downed McDonald and Scribner from ACU, 8-3, in the first round of the doubles draw.



Velcz had a day on court two, winning his first collegiate singles match. With a dominating 6-1 result in set one, Velcz finished what he started and won the second set 7-5.



Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi took home a 6-3, 6-2 win against Daniel Linkuns-Morozovs from ACU in his first-round match, which moves him on to face Max Amling from Lamar on Saturday.



In doubles, Grassi Mazzuchi paired with Finn Bass to find an 8-4 win over Deli and Rastrojo from ACU before Bass went on to defeat SMU’s Julian Steinhausen in singles, 6-3, 7-5.



Sophomore duo of Justin Braverman and Ethan Muza opened up play in the main doubles draw, winning 8-4 over Perego and Martin-Thiriat from Incarnate Word in the first round. In round No. 2, they fell, 8-4, to fourth-seeded Schachter/Hilderbrand from Texas A&M.



After battling through the qualifiers on Thursday, Braverman lost a three-setter to Kenner Taylor in the first round of the main draw, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Muza also fell in the first round, 6-4, 6-1 to Sebastian Gorzny from TCU.



Marko Miladinović defeated Tiago Torres of UTSA, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-4, before falling in his first-round doubles match, 8-5, with Christopher Frantzen.



WHAT’S NEXT

Day three of play begins on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with a consolation round of doubles at the Hurd Tennis Center.
