IRVING, Texas – Baylor equestrian’s Madaline Callaway and Annie Vorhies have been named Big 12 Riders of the Month for September, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.

Callaway, a fifth-year senior, collected her first-career Big 12 Reining honor after going 2-0 on the road with a Most Outstanding Performer award. Vorhies, a Jumping Seat sophomore, also went 2-0 in Fences to pick up her first-career accolade from the conference.

A native of Loveland, Colo., Callaway got off to a hot start this season with a pair of victories at No. 10 South Carolina and No. 5 Georgia. She broke Baylor’s all-time record for Reining MOP’s with her seventh-career award following a point-winning 70.5 against the Gamecocks in her first ride of the year. Then, she tallied the largest point spread of the event at UGA with a two-point victory after scoring a 72. Callaway led BU’s Reining squad to a combined seven points over the two meets, including a 4-0 sweep of the Bulldogs.

In just her third- and fourth-career meets, Vorhies put down back-to-back 84’s at SC and UGA to win both of her matchups on the Bears’ season-opening road trip. She dominated her opponents with spreads of nine points and seven points, respectively. Though BU struggled on the Jumping Seat side, Vorhies shined with two of Baylor’s three Fences points on the week while posting a personal-best of 84 in both rides.

These awards mark BU’s 21st all-time Fences honor and just the second Reining recognition in Big 12 history. Callaway was previously named the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Reining Rider of the Month in January 2021, while Vorhies becomes a first-time honoree at either the national or conference level.

Baylor returns to the competition arena on Saturday, Oct. 15, at No. 4 Oklahoma State, with first ride scheduled for 10 a.m. CT.
