BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Baylor cross country team wrapped up the 2022 season at the NCAA South Central Regional on Friday morning.

As a team, the women finished eighth in their 6k race, while the men finished seventh in their 10k. Ellie Hodge, Ryan Day and Drew Snyder all secured All-Region honors with their top-25 performances.

THE RUNDOWN

Hodge took her familiar spot at the top of the Baylor standings on Friday morning, as she finished just five seconds behind a new personal-best in the last cross country meet of her collegiate career. The graduate student crossed the line in 22nd place, good enough to finish in the All-Region category.

Sophia Lediner finished in the No. 2 spot for the Bears and 43rd overall, followed by Hayden Gold in 54th place, Jordan Ledington in 59th place and Cate Urbani in 70th place.

The women’s 248 points landed them in eighth place, the highest ranking for the women’s squad since their 3rd place finish in the 2017 season.

In their longest race of the season, the men’s team had a strong showing out at the Watts Cross Country Course. Day led the pack of Bear men again in his final cross country race, finishing 18th overall in the field of 167 for All-Region. Snyder was only 15 seconds behind Day, finishing in 24th and winning an All-Region medal as well.

Ryan Hodge (45th place), Noah Monroy (72nd place) and Ethan Wrase (129th place) all scored points for the green and gold, while Devin Duran crossed in 130th place, seven seconds behind Wrase.

The men put up 286 points for a seventh place finish, their best since 2016 when the team finished in fifth.

HIGHLIGHTS

  * The women’s eighth place finish marked their best since the 2017 season where they finished third.
  * The men’s seventh place finished marked their best since the 2016 season where they finished fifth.

QUOTABLE

Head Coach David Barnett

On the meet…

“It was a step in the right direction for both programs. On the women’s side, we’ve dealt with some injury and sickness since the conference meet, but I thought several of them had their best races of the season. The men improved a lot from last year and beat some quality teams in a tight team race. For individuals, Ellie had a great race to finish All-Region, and on the men’s side Ryan Day and Drew Snyder ran very gutsy races for All-Region as well, which was the first time in over 10 years for the men to have multiple All-Region performers. I’m grateful for their hard work and excited for their continued improvement this upcoming indoor track season.”

WHAT’S NEXT

All eyes turn back to the track as the Bears make their 2023 indoor season debut at Texas Tech’s Corky Classic, Jan. 13-14.
