WACO, Texas – The No. 18/17 Baylor women’s basketball team begins the 2022-23 campaign on Monday night when it hosts the Lamar Cardinals. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside the Ferrell Center.

STARTING STRONG

The Bears have won 12-straight season openers. Baylor’s last season-opening loss was during the 2009-10 slate to then-No. 9/8 Tennessee on the road, falling 74-65. The Bears were ranked No. 7/4 to start the season that year.



Baylor’s match-up with Lamar on Monday marks the 13th-consecutive year the Bears have started their season at home. Baylor has won 17-straight home openers, dating back to the 2005-06 campaign.



BAYLOR VS. THE STATE OF TEXAS

In Baylor women’s basketball history, the Bears are 386-227 (.630) against opponents from the state of Texas. Monday’s meeting with Lamar marks the fourth time in program history the two teams will collide, marking the first meeting since 2019. The Bears are a perfect 3-0 against the Cardinals in the all-time series. Since 2011, Baylor has played 103 games against in-state opponents and only lost four times.



PROMOTIONS

The women’s basketball team has partnered with South Waco Elementary for a coat drive this fall. Beginning with the Bears’ season opener against Lamar, fans can bring a new or lightly used coat for kids, ages 5-13, to the marketing table on the concourse during home games from Nov. 7 to Dec. 7.
