WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis split up on Saturday to compete at the 2022 ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego, Calif., and the Ralston/Neufeld Coaches Challenge at SMU in Dallas. In California, the doubles paring of Finn Bass and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi fell in the semifinal round to the fourth-seeded team from Ohio State, Andrew Lutschaunig and JJ Tracy, 6-4, 3-6, 10-(7)



THE RUNDOWN

ITA Fall Nationals

Bass and Grassi Mazzuchi had a hard-fought loss in California on Saturday afternoon, as the pair made a few runs to nearly push the Buckeyes out of the victor’s seat. Set two was especially impressive from the Bears, as they were able to kick it into high gear, taking four-straight games to win the set, 6-4, before falling in the third set breaker after a late surge.



Ralston/Neufeld Coaches Challenge

The doubles team of Justin Braverman and Ethan Muza got another win in the tournament, taking a 6-1 match over King/Grueber from Wichita State. Staying in doubles, Christopher Frantzen and Marko Miladinović pulled out a nail-biter, 7-5 to Boise State’s Minakata/Van Herzeel.



Tadeas Paroulek emerged in the SMU tournament on Saturday with two quick wins over a couple Boise State Broncos. Simon Arca Costas fell 6-4, 6-0, followed by Ryo Minakata, 6-2, 6-1.



Braverman added to his win column on Saturday, beating Wichita State teammates Zach Grueber, 6-1, 6-0, and Luke Bracks, 6-0, 6-2.



Miladinović also had a 2-0 day, topping Alam Yim from Harvard 6-4, 7-5, and Jaydn Richardson from Wichita State, 6-0, 6-2.



Frantzen found victory in a 6-3, 6-2 win over Richard King (Wichita State), but not before dropping his singles opener, 6-3, 7-5(5) to Boise State’s Caden Moortgat.



WHAT’S NEXT

Baylor closes out the fall slate at SMU Sunday morning. Match times and opponents will be announced once determined.
