WACO, Texas – No. 1 Baylor acrobatics & tumbling’s Emily Tobin has been named Athlete of the Week while Bayley Humphrey has been dubbed Specialist of the Week by the NCATA, the organization announced Wednesday.

This is Tobin’s fourth accolade of its kind for the season, earning them previously on Feb. 7, Feb. 23 and March 2.

Sophomore base Humphrey earned her second honor of the season, having first earned the Specialist nod on Feb. 23.

Last time out against Mary Hardin-Baylor, the Bears boasted a winning total of 279.460 to the Crusaders’ 257.725. Tobin and Humphrey helped BU improve to 6-0 on the season with the victory going into their final home meet on Saturday.

Against UMHB, Tobin competed in 12 heats as well as the team event. She was a top in compulsory acro (9.75/10), toss (9.95/10) and pyramid (9.85/10), while Humphrey served as a base in those heats. Tobin also competed in compulsory tumbling (9.1/10).

In the acro event, Tobin competes in the first two heats, while Humphrey is in the last.

Heat one, the five-element heat, had Tobin and company earning a 9.9/10 with a raw score of 10.9, where she is one of only two tops in the country currently competing the inlocate to low hand-in-hand then press to high element with a single base. Heat two, the six-element heat, earned a 9.9/10 with a raw score of 10.55. In the third and final heat, the seven-element heat, Humphrey is the base with freshman Jordan Gruendler as the top, earning a 9.9/10 with a raw score of 11.1. In the heat, she is the solo base. Humphrey is the only base in the country to compete that many skills as a single base in an acro heat, with three of the skills being ones that no other base in the country competes: high hand-to-hand with back arch, straddle to low hand-to-hand, and the one-arm flag with split.

Tobin competes in heat two and three of pyramid and heats two and three of toss, along with Humphrey. She also competes in two tumbling heats, including the duo pass and the six-element solo pass where she earned a 9.85/10.

Humphrey competes in all three pyramid heats, with heat one earning a 9.95/10 with her as the mid-level of an extended high hand-to-hand. Heat two earned a 9.8/10, where she’s a mid-level base of one of two synchronized pyramids with a hand-to-foot connection. Heat three earned a perfect score of 10/10, and she is the base who loads the top into the structure as a single base.

In the team event, Tobin competes in two tosses, three acro elements, one handstand pyramid, one standing and one running tumbling pass. Humphrey contributes 10 of the 30 required acro elements in the team event as well as serving as a mid-level base in an inverted pyramid and as a base in two tosses.
