THE RUNDOWN
NORMAN, Okla. – Baylor baseball (12-11, 2-4) salvaged its series at Oklahoma (14-8, 2-1) by hammering the Sooners 16-8 on Sunday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman, Okla.

Tre Richardson led an offensive explosion by going 4-for-4 with five runs scored as part of the Bears’ season-high 16-run performance. He was a double shy of the cycle.

BU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead behind a two-run double by Jared McKenzie, who later scored on a wild pitch. OU countered with two runs in the second, but Baylor responded with runs in each of the third and fourth innings to go ahead 5-2.

The Sooners pulled within a run following a two-run single in the fourth, but Baylor answered with a two-spot of its own in the top of the fifth. Richardson blasted a solo home run, his third of the season, and Harrison Caley delivered one of his three RBIs to make it 7-4.

OU tied it in the bottom half of the fifth behind a two-run homer and RBI single, but the Bears pulled away following a run in the sixth and a five-spot in the seventh. After Richardson tripled, Kyle Nevin drove him in with an RBI groundout, then three Oklahoma errors, two walks, a hit-by-pitch and an RBI knock by Casen Neumann made it 13-7.

Cam Caley gave the Bears 1.1 scoreless innings in relief of Will Rigney before turning it over to Jake Jackson who went the final 3.1. Baylor added three more runs in the top of the ninth off RBI hits from Chase Wehsener and Harrison Caley before OU scratched across the final tally of the game.

TOP QUOTES
Head coach Steve Rodriguez
On today’s game…
“It was going to be punch-for-punch with Oklahoma today the way things were going and it was just a matter of how we could stop some of their momentum. I thought Cam Caley came in and did a great job, Will [Rigney] did a good job getting us deep into the game and then Jake [Jackson] came in and just did a phenomenal job. But I thought our offense did such a good job of maintaining great at-bats throughout the day. Tre [Richardson] just missed a cycle. They took what they did yesterday and kept pounding the ball off a really good pitching staff. I’m really proud of what these guys did today.”

On production from the entire lineup…
“Sometimes you forget about the two-out RBIs from the bottom of the order, which was enormous. Harrison Caley came through late in the game with two big RBIs, a two-out hit, those are the types of things that are going to continue to propel us to where we want to go. As long as guys keep taking good at-bats, especially off of really good pitching, those are the things that are going to matter later on.”

Sophomore INF Tre Richardson
On the offensive approach and not thinking about a potential cycle…
“Just been staying with the same approach. Friday and Saturday, I hit a few balls hard that didn’t fall. There were a few that I didn’t hit too hard that I got hits for, and today just doing the same things I have been doing the entire weekend and they all fell for me. I knew I was a double away, but I was just trying to hit the ball as hard as I could. If I hit it in the gap and the situation calls for me to go to third for a triple, that’s what I’m going to do. I don’t really care too much about the heroics of it. I’m just trying to get the job done.”
