STORYLINES

LEADING OFF

• Baylor is coming off yet another 3-1 week, having won nine of its last 12 games with four wins coming against ranked opponents.

• This marks the fifth time in the last four seasons that Baylor has gone on a stretch with at least nine wins and no more than three losses over the course of at least 12 games.

• Last week, the Bears took two of three from Columbia, including a walk-off win in 10 innings in Sunday's series finale. BU also defeated Abilene Christian, 6-4, in its midweek game.

• Baylor boasts a 4-2 record against ranked opponents in 2022, with wins over No. 23 Duke, No. 23 UCLA and No. 7 LSU.

• Baylor is 46-15 in midweek matchups under seventh-year head coach Steve Rodriguez, including a 3-0 mark in 2022.

• The Bears have won 10 of their last 11 midweek games, dating back to the 2021 season.

• Baylor stays close to home in 2022, as 43 of its 52 regular-season contests will be played in the state of Texas.

• BU doesn't leave The Lone Star State until March 25-27, when it travels to take on Oklahoma in Norman.

WALK-OFF WINNERS

• Baylor capped off its series win over Columbia in dramatic fashion on Sunday, as Jared McKenzie delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to win it for the Bears.

• Tre Richardson led off the 10th with a four-pitch walk, then Kyle Nevin doubled off the right field wall. Chase Wehsener was intentionally walked to load the bases for McKenzie, who wasted no time in driving the second pitch he saw into the right-center gap to end it.

• Freshman RHP Mason Marriott provided 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, putting up zeros to give the Bears' offense a chance at a game-winning run.

• BU starter Will Rigney turned in a career-high 5.1 innings in the no decision, holding the Lions to just three hits and notching a trio of punchouts as well.

McKENZIE'S ROUND TRIPPER

• Jared McKenzie circled the bases for an inside-the-park home run in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against Columbia for his first home run of the season.

• The inside-the-parker was Baylor's first since March 19, 2011, when Chris Slater did so against Texas Tech.

• McKenzie blasted one to deep center field where the ball ricocheted off the wall and got past the Columbia outfielders. He never slowed down and beat the throw to the plate for a two-run shot.

NEUMANN FASTEST FRESHMAN TO HOMER

• Last Wednesday at Abilene Christian, Casen Neumann became the fastest Baylor freshman in the last 20 seasons to hit his first-career home run.

• In just his second-career at-bat, Neumann mashed one over the right field wall for a three-run blast, having entered as a pinch-hitter and putting the Bears ahead, 6-3.

• Neumann beat Landis Ware (3rd AB, 2008), Richard Cunningham (5th AB, 2016), Cam Caley (5th AB, 2021), Max Muncy (6th AB, 2010), Darryn Sheppard (7th AB, 2014) and Josh Ludy (7th AB, 2009) as the fastest BU freshman to hit his first-career HR.

T-THOM A TRUE FRIDAY NIGHT ACE

• Fifth-year senior LHP Tyler Thomas has turned himself into a bonafide Friday night ace, with four outstanding starts so far in 2022.

• Thomas followed up his career-best outing with another stellar start, going 8.0 scoreless against Columbia with seven strikeouts and just three hits allowed.

• Previously, Thomas went 8.2 innings and allowed just four hits while recording a career-high 10 strikeouts in the 2-1 win over No. 23 UCLA.

• Thomas is now 3-1 in 2022 with a 0.94 ERA, having surrendered just three runs across two different frames of his Big 12-leading 28.2 innings pitched.

• He has posted 31 K's and just three walks, ranking second in the conference with an 10.33 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

MARRIOTT TURNS OUT THE LIGHTS

• Freshman Mason Marriott is beginning to solidify his role as the closer with four saves in 2022.

• He owns a 1.80 ERA across 10 innings pitched, having allowed just two earned runs.

• The rookie right-hander is tied for the team-lead with eight appearances and has worked four outings longer than an inning.
