IRVING, Texas – Baylor equestrian’s Caroline Fuller and track and field’s Reese Sarnowski were two of the 20 recipients for the prestigious 2021-22 Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarship, announced Tuesday by the Big 12 Conference office.

The scholarships are named in honor of the late Dr. Prentice Gautt, a former Big 12 Conference staff member and student services' pioneer who passed away in March 2005. The list of all-time recipients has grown to 481 since the inception of the league in 1996-97. Starting in 2002-03, additional funding increased scholarship award winners to two per member institution.

Fuller and Sarnowski are Baylor’s representatives among the 20 honorees, with each of the conference’s member institutions awarded two scholarships, one male and one female.

This marks the third-straight year an equestrian student-athlete represented as BU’s female recipient. Caroline Fuller follows 2018-19 recipient Samantha Howell and 2019-20 recipient Grace Thiel. No scholarships were awarded for the 2020-21 school year.

Over the course of four seasons at Baylor, Fuller stood out both in the competition arena and in the classroom. She was a three-time NCEA All-Academic First Team selection, two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team member, and an Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team honoree before graduating with her degree in biology. A breakout senior season landed her on the All-Big 12 Fences and Flat Teams, as the Denver, N.C., native collected six Rider of the Month honors from both the Big 12 and NCEA. To cap it all off, Fuller was named an NCEA Fences All-America Honorable Mention in 2021-22.

Sarnowski is the 11th BU track and field student-athlete to earn the scholarship and the first since Seth Brown in 2018-19.

Sarnowski graduated in May with a University Scholars degree, focusing in biology, chemistry and Spanish. On the track, he recorded a personal-best 16-10 ¾ mark in the pole vault at the University of Iowa in 2020. Later that season, Sarnowski finished seventh at the Big 12 Championships to end his pole-vaulting career with All-Big 12 Honors.

To date, the Big 12 has provided over $3.7 million for postgraduate education. The individual grants began at $2,500 in 1996-97, were raised to $5,000 in 1999 and increased to $6,900 for 2004-05. The awards climbed to $7,500 in 2006-07, moved to $9,000 in 2011-12 and have been at $10,000 since 2013-14.

Criteria for the awards includes a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.200 on a 4.000 scale and participation in at least two years of intercollegiate athletics at the nominee’s respective institution. The student-athletes must graduate from their respective member institutions and enroll in graduate or professional school of their choice within 15 months of their selection of the postgraduate scholarship.
