THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas – No. 22 Baylor women’s tennis (2-2) dropped a hard-fought contest to No. 15 USC (5-0), 4-3, Saturday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center.

Baylor got off to a quick start in doubles as Paula Barañano and Isabella Harvison topped McKenna Koenig and Leyden Games, 6-1, on court No. 3. Shortly after, the No. 4 duo of Mel Krywoj and Alicia Herrero Linana clinched the doubles point for the Bears with a 6-4 win on court No. 1 over No. 23 Snow Han and Salma Ewing.

Barañano made it 2-0 in favor of BU with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Danielle Wilson on court No. 6.

USC then clinched three-straight points to take a 3-2 lead, but No. 77 Herrero tied things up at 3 with her 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 dub over Sloane Morra on court No. 4.

It all came down to Baylor freshman Anita Sahdiieva and USC’s Grace Piper. Sahdiieva won the first set, 6-4, before Piper answered with a 6-3 win. The two battled on court No. 5, but Piper ultimately prevailed in the final set, 6-4.

  *   Paula Barañano went 2-0 on the weekend in singles.
  *   No. 4 Mel Krywoj and Alicia Herrero Linana went 2-0 in doubles action.

UP NEXT
No. 22 Baylor travels south to Austin to take on its second-straight ranked opponent in No. 1 Texas on Wednesday. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
