THE RUNDOWN
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Baylor track and field opened up competition in Iowa City, Iowa, Friday afternoon with an impressive five-win day.

The Larry Wieczorek Invitational began with women’s weight throw in the afternoon. Baylor ended in back-to-back places with Hannah Link and Samone Turner finishing eighth and ninth, respectively. Link threw for a final measurement of 54 feet, 4 inches, with Turner shortly behind with 50-2 ¾.

Moorea Long put on a show in the high jump after clearing 5-5 ¾ on her first attempt. This length tied her personal-best performance in collegiate indoor competition. That was good enough to give Long her first-ever gold medal.

In Johnny Brackins’ second collegiate indoor meet, the freshman walked away with gold after a 25-6 ¼ performance. This length ties Brackins with the No. 3 all-time jump as a Bear, next to Lee Miles’ jump in 1991. It also moves him to the No. 2 slot for jumpers at the school.

Mikayla Deshazer set a new PR with a 48-10 ¼ throw in the shot put, good enough to land her fifth-place in the competition.
