Baylor T&F: Madlock Wins Conference Bronze in Long Jump

THE RUNDOWN
AMES, Iowa – Baylor track and field opened up the first day of the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Ames, Iowa, on Friday. Baylor men are in eighth-place with six points and the women are in seventh with 17.5 points.

Alex Madlock won the team’s first indoor conference medal of the meet after a stellar performance the long jump. The senior landed a personal-record of 20-9 ¼ on her last attempt to secure the medal. Caira Pettway ended the event in fourth-place with a 20-8 jump, followed by Koi Johnson in eighth.

Both men’s and women’s DMR teams finished their relays in sixth-place. On the women’s side, Hayden Gold, Morgan Stewart, Aaliyah Miller and Ellie Friesen clocked 11:30.60, while Ryan Hodge, Jayson Baldridge, Alec Atteberry and Ryan Day finished in 9:57.08.

Tuesdi Tidwell finished the women’s pole vault competition in sixth place after clearing 13-4 ¼. Alex Kubicek finished the event in 10th place. For the men, Nate Butler ended in 11th, clearing 15-5 ¾.

Johnny Brackins picked up three points for the Bears with a sixth-place finish in the men’s long jump. The freshman recorded a 24-5 ¾ jump on his third attempt.

Ackera Nugent advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with the fastest qualifying time of 8.05 seconds. Kennedy Bailey also advanced in 8.42 seconds.

In the men’s edition of the race, Brackins clocked the third-fastest time with 7.83 seconds, while Elijah Morris ran an 8.09. Both Brackins and Morris advanced to the final round that will be held Saturday.

Pettway, Sydney Washington and Michaela Francois all advanced to the finals in the 60-meter dash, with Pettway recording a new personal-best of 7.26 seconds.

Trey Fields finished the first round of the men’s 400 meters in first place, boasting a 46.54-second finish. Dillon Bedell also qualified to the finals, finishing in third with a 46.61-second race. Hasani Barr landed just outside the qualification zone in ninth-place. Kavia Francis and Imaobong Uko advanced to the 400-meter finals with a 52.96 and 53.45 race, respectively.

Isaiah Cunningham was the lone Bear to qualify through to the men’s 60-meter dash with his 6.69-second race.

Nathaniel Ezekiel clocked the second-fastest time in the men’s 600 yards. The first-semester freshman ran a 1:08.32 and will compete in the final round at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mazie Larsen got the final qualification spot in the women’s 1,000 meters, finishing in eighth place after a 2:53.55 race.
