Story lines
• Baylor Softball will head north to Arlington, for a midweek matchup against UT Arlington, Tuesday, February 22. This game will mark the first of five-straight games the Bears will compete in on the road.
• BU and UT Arlington have previously met 85 times, with Baylor leading the all-time record, 53-29-1. In Arlington, the Bears still hold the series lead at 17-12-1. The last meeting between these two teams was February 24, 2021 where the Bears defeated the Mavericks 6-1.
• This will be the first of two matchups between the Bears and Mavericks this season with game two coming on April 19.
• This game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but due to incoming inclement weather the teams decided to bump it up a day to get in the game.
• This past weekend, Baylor faced off against No. 12 Oregon for their home opener. Continuing their perfect start to the season, BU knocked off No. 12 Oregon in game one of the three game series 3-0 and moved to 6-0 to open the season. The Bears handed Oregon its first loss of the season, while picking up their first win over a ranked opponent since March 14, 2021 when the Bears defeated No. 9 Arizona State 7-2.
• Baylor fell, 8-4 and then 10-4 to the Ducks in the next two games and moved to 6-2 on the season.
• Dariana Orme pitched her first complete game shutout against the ranked Ducks in the Friday afternoon home opener. She struck out six while only issuing one walk and allowing four hits. She improved to 3-0 this season.
• Baylor is holding steady at No. 3 in the conference with a team batting average of .307 and team era of 3.00.
• McKenzie Wilson is still ranking among the top batters in the Big 12 with a .500 batting average, 13 hits and two triples. She leads the conference n stolen bases with five.
• After the series against Oregon, all 21 players on the Baylor roster have now played in a game this season. Ashlyn Wachtendorf came in to pinch run against the Ducks.
• Five Bears, Emily Hott, McKenzie Wilson, Sydney Collazos, Aliyah Binford and Ana Watson started each game and hit in order in each of the three games of the series.
• Leading the team against Oregon was Sydney Collazos, who hit .545 and going 6-for-11 at the plate. She added a double and an RBI.
• 10 Bears combined for 24 hits on the weekend, outhitting the Ducks 24-22.
