Fort Worth, Texas – Baylor baseball outfielder Jared McKenzie has been named to the 2022 Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award (BBSCA) watch list, as previously announced by the organization.

The BBSCA honors the nation’s top collegiate hitter and is based on performance at the plate, academics and personal integrity.

This year’s watch list consists of 44 players representing 18 conferences, including four from the Big 12. The 2022 recipient will be announced in June and honored at a gala in the fall in Fort Worth.

The BBSCA was first awarded in 2017 to the top college hitter in Texas. In 2019, the honor expanded to include Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma. The BBSCA became a national award in 2020; however, no winner was announced due to the shortened season. Last year’s winner was Connor Norby from East Carolina.

A third-year sophomore from Round Rock, Texas, McKenzie hit .383 last season with 10 home runs and 44 RBI. He led the Bears with 82 hits, 62 runs, four triples and a 1.079 OPS in 2021 and is currently Baylor’s all-time leader in career batting average (.389).

Baylor opens its 2022 season against Maryland on Friday, Feb. 18, as part of a three-game series and seven-game homestand at Baylor Ballpark in Waco.
