THE RUNDOWN
LUBBOCK, Texas – Baylor Track and Field wrapped up its final regular-season indoor meet on Saturday at the Texas Tech Shootout in Lubbock.

Nathaniel Ezekiel recorded the fastest time (1:08.41) for the men’s 600 yards that the program has seen since 2000, set by Floyd Thompson. That race puts Ezekiel in the No. 2 spot all-time at Baylor. Chris Dupree followed behind in 22nd place and Beau Thomason finished 25th.

Mariah Ayers ran a new personal-best in the 200 meters with a 23.18 race. Sydney Washington finished in sixth with 23.96 and Demitra Carter finished in eighth with 24.10. Also competing for the Bears was Bria Bullard in 11th, Summer Sergeant in 14th and Michaela Francois in 23rd.

Matthew Moorer recorded a new season-best in the men’s 200 meters with a 20.73 race. Kamden Jackson finished in 10th, Isaiah Cunningham followed in 11th, De’montray Callis finished 15th and Laurenz Colbert finished in 17th.

The women’s 4x400-meter A team, comprised of Kavia Francis, Imaobong Uko, Gontse Morake and Mariah Ayers finished today’s relay with a gold medal in 3:33.86. That marks the eighth-fastest relay time recorded by a Baylor squad in history. Demitra Carter, Jasmine Gryne, Cierra Wash and Briana Garcia competed as the B squad, finishing in ninth place.

Dillon Bedell, Matthew Moorer, Jayson Baldridge and Trey Fields finished the men’s 4x400-meter relay in a new season-best time of 3:06.09 and a gold medal. Isaiah Cunningham, Hasani Barr, Ezekiel and Christopher Dupree finished in third place running a 3:10.50.

Mazie Larsen won a silver medal in the 1000-meter race, finishing in 2:59. Celia Holmes ended in just over three minutes at 3:03.25, landing her in fourth place. On the men’s side, Alec Atteberry finished the 1000 meters in seventh place after 2:32.45.

Mikayla Deshazer ended the women’s B section of the shot put in fourth place after a 48-8 throw on her first attempt. Cole Hardan threw a 56-0 ½ in shot to finish in sixth place.

Alex Madlock and Koi Johnson finished the long jump in the 10th and 11th position, respectively. Johnson led the first flight with her jump of 41-3 ¾ and Madlock ended with 41-8.

Tuesdi Tidwell finished the day at the pole vault in third place, after ending at 13-11 ¼. Alex Kubicek ended her competition at four meters even (13-1 ½).

Cierra Wash ran a 24.91 race in the B section of the women’s 200 meters, enough to land in fifth place.

Jasmine Gryne got the seventh-place finish in the women’s 600 yards, followed by Briana Garcia in 15th and Lily Williams in 16th.

MUSIC CITY CLASSIC

Ellie Friesen competed bright and early in the women’s unseeded 3,000 meters finishing in 9:55.37, enough for 15th. Shortly after, Ryan Day and Ryan Hodge finished in 8:22.35 and 8:26.19, respectively.

In her season-debut of the 800 meters, Aaliyah Miller finished in 11th place with a 2:05.78 showing.

The Bears now have a week off to put the finishing touches on before the conference meet hosted by Iowa State.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Mariah Ayers won a gold medal after running a 23.18 personal-best in the 200 meters.
  *   The women’s 4x400 squad of Kavia Francis, Imaobong Uko, Gontse Morake and Mariah Ayers, won gold and finished in a top-8 time at Baylor of 3:33.86.
  *   Dillon Bedell, Matthew Moorer, Jayson Baldridge and Trey Fields won a gold medal with a 3:06.09 race.
