Story lines

• Baylor Softball is finally ready to start its season in Natchitoches, La., at the Lady Demon Classic. The 2021 feature a 52-game slate which consists of three tournaments and 28 home games. Friday will mark the sixth consecutive season the Bears have began their season on the road, where they hold a 3-2 record in those season opening games.

• When the season kicks off on Friday, the team will be young but hungry as they seek their 15th NCAA postseason bid after finished last season as the No. 2 seed in the Gainesville Regional.

• This Baylor team is a young team with 15 of the 21 players on the roster being under classman.

• This weekend will mark the first time the Bears are meeting with UT - Martin and Arkansas - Pine Bluff

• The matchup with Northwestern State will be the 33rd time the two teams are meeting and Baylor leads the matchups 30-2. The last time these two teams faced off was Feb. 9-10, 2018 where Baylor swept the Lady Demons in a three-game series. Baylor will look to pick up its 12th straight win on the road in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

• Baylor last faced Chattanooga March 6, 2004 where the Bears won 4-1. This will be the 5th time these two teams are meeting and the all-time series is tied at 2-2. All four games against the Mocs have come under head coach Glenn Moore, two of them during Moore’s inaugural season with the Bears in 2001 and the third the next year, 2002.


QUICK HITS

• Baylor will face five ESPN Preseason Top-25 teams this year, with four in the Preseason Top-10; Oklahoma, UCLA, Oklahoma State, Texas and Oregon (three times). Baylor was receiving votes in the ESPN Preseason poll.

• Baylor welcomes back 11 returners from last year, with six freshman and four transfers.

• BU was picked 4th in the Big-12 Preseason coaches’ poll. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas had the top three spots.

• Every Baylor Softball game this season will be broadcast on the radio on 101.3 FM. Dan Ingham, in his seventh season as the voice of Baylor Softball, will call every game.

• Every home game will be aired on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.



MOORE ERA HIGHLIGHTS

• Glenn Moore is coaching his 1,203rd through 1,206th (802-400) games at Baylor this weekend. His .667 winning percentage is best in BU history and he’s the program’s all-time wins leader.

• Moore recorded his 900th win overall with a 10-2 (5) victory over Grand Canyon in Waco (2/14/20).

• Moore’s 800th career win came with a 9-3 win over McNeese State in Waco (2/22/18).

• Moore notched his 700th win at Baylor in the final game of the Tucson Super Regional, punching Baylor’s ticket into the Women’s College World Series (5/28/17).

• All but one of his 100-win milestones have come at Baylor, with his first 100th game coming during his tenure at LSU with a 6-5 win over Auburn (3/17/00).

• In Moore’s 22 seasons as Baylor head coach, BU has cracked the Top 25 polls at some point in the season in every one.

• In 2021, Moore reached 800 wins at Baylor as he led the Lady Bears back to the postseason

  at the Gainesville Regional.

• Moore has coached 88 of Baylor’s 93 All-Big 12 selections and 12 of Baylor’s 13 All-Americans.

• Baylor has had 9 players drafted into the National Professional Fastpitch (NPF) draft.

• Baylor has placed at least six selections to the conference’s academic honors for 13 straight seasons and five or more for 18 straight years.

• Moore has a career record of 941-442 over 25 seasons as a collegiate head coach, he stands as the active wins         leader across all sports for Baylor athletics (802).



MEET THE (RETURNING) TEAM

• With 11 returners, you will see some familiar faces on the diamond this year as 2021 letterwinners Aliyah Binford, Emily Hott, Zadie LaValley, Kendall Cross, Sydney Collazos, Campbell Selman, Maren Judisch, Josie Bower, Ana Watson and Katie Ellington all came back. From the 2021 roster, Taylor Strain is also returned but redshirted the 2021 season.

• Of the returners, Hott returns with the highest batting average with .310 last season, while also recording a team high in runs with 35 with 39 hits and 18 RBI.

• Binford also made an impact last season as a two-way player for the Bears. She led the team in homeruns with five and RBI with 28. She also pitched 55.2 innings with 41 strikeouts.



MEET THE (TRANSFER) TEAM

• BU picked up four transfers this season that will add power and dominance to the field and lineup. Two transfers come from Fresno State, outfielder McKenzie Wilson and pitcher Dariana Orme. They also picked up pitcher Rachel Hertenberger from Houston and senior outfielder Rhein Trochim from Illinois.

• Wilson, is making this her comeback season after suffering a season-ending injury prior to her 2021 campaign. In her prior two seasons at Fresno State, she topped the conference in on base percentage and ranked No. 2 in the country in stolen bases per game (1.08).

• Orme, redshirted her freshman season at Fresno before logging a 4-1 record the next season. In her 2021 campaign, she finished with an 8-4 record and earned a 3.26 ERA through 68.2 inning of work.

• Hertenberger, played three seasons for Houston finishing her 2021 season with a 3.98 ERA through 114.1 inning pitched.

• Trochim, is a fifth-year senior, who is originally from Robinson, Texas and is returning home to close out her career.



MEET THE (FRESHMAN) TEAM

• Baylor added six freshmen to their roster this season, Emry McDonough, Ashlyn Wachtendorf, Grace Powell, Kaci West, Rylie Bouvier and Caroline Rowatt.

• Most of the girls are staying close to home, as five are native to the central Texas/Waco area.
