No. 2 Baylor MT Wins 6-1 Over No. 9 Texas

WACO, Texas – The No. 2 Baylor men’s tennis team won triumphantly, 6-1, over No. 9 Texas on Monday night in front of a strong crowd in the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.

The Bears (9-0) clinched the doubles point and won five of the six singles matches to secure the win over the Longhorns (4-3).

BU has allowed only one point to be scored by their opponent in just three matches this season.

To start the Bears off, Matias Soto and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi took the first doubles match with a 6-4 win over Pierre-Yves Bailly/Siem Woldeab on court two. Clinching the doubles point was Adrian Boitan and Tadeas Paroulek, winning 7-5 over Chih Chi Huang/Micah Braswell on court three. No. 18 Finn Bass and Sven Lah were in a 6-6 tie on court one when Boitan and Paroulek finished, with Texas’ No. 13-ranked pair of Cleeve Harper/Richard Ciamarra ahead 5-2 in the tiebreaker.

In singles competition, Marko Miladinović had the hot start, besting No. 105 Siem Woldeab on court four at 6-4, 6-0. Grassi Mazzuchi followed not long after with his 6-2, 6-2 win over Evin McDonald on court six. Boitan finished next with his upset of No. 20 Braswell on court one, a dominant 6-0, 6-3 win over the Longhorn.

Playing out the match, Bass also had an upset win over UT’s 73rd-ranked Harper on court five, winning 3-6, 6-1, 10-6. On court three came Texas’ lone point, with Ciamarra besting No. 48 Lah, 6-4, 6-4 after the senior had put up a fight. Court two was the last to finish but ended victoriously as Soto won six-straight points to take the match 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 10-7 to best Bailly.

The Bears host Tulsa on Friday and No. 6 Virginia on Saturday, both in the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center at 2 p.m. on their respective days. Free t-shirts will be given away against the Cavaliers while supplies last.
