WACO, Texas – Baylor equestrian sophomore Shelby Clausen has been named the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) Reining Rider of the Month for January, as announced Wednesday by the organization.

The sophomore from Cave Creek, Ariz., put down a 73 in BU’s only meet of the month at No. 2 Texas A&M, earning Most Outstanding Performer honors in her event. Clausen’s efforts helped the Bears to a 3-1 win in Reining and sparked a late comeback bid that came up just short on the road against the Aggies. Clausen also extended her season win streak to five in a row with her second MOP of the season.

This award marks Baylor’s 23rd all-time NCEA Rider of the Month honor and third such accolade in Reining. It is Clausen’s first-career national recognition.

BU remains on the road this week with a 1 p.m. contest at No. 1 Oklahoma State on Saturday, Feb. 5, in Stillwater, Okla.
