No. 1 A&T Wins Over No. 8 Converse, Advances to Semifinals
Bears defeat Valkyries to take on either Oregon or Quinnipiac

EUGENE, Ore. – No. 1 Baylor acrobatics & tumbling moves on to the semifinals of the NCATA Championships after beating No. 8-seed Converse, 271.325 – 260.195.

The Bears (9-0) took out the Valkyries (9-4) with the victory, winning by 11.13 points in the quarterfinals.

BU overtook Converse in every event, though the two stayed uncharacteristically close.

Baylor had scores all above a 9.0 in compulsory, highlighted by a 9.95 toss heat, finishing with a total of 38.55, besting the Valkyries’ 35.85. The Bears’ compulsory tumbling heat was the highest of any team’s quarterfinal score.

In the acro event, Baylor had no scores under a 9.85, scoring a 9.85 in the five and seven element and a 9.90 in the six-element for a total score of 29.60 for the event. Converse had a total of 28.675 in the event.

For pyramid, the Bears continued their winning ways and recorded total of 29.725 for the three heats. BU had a perfect 10.0 score in the inversion pyramid, followed by a 9.775 in the synchronized heat and a 9.95 in the open heat. The Valkyries scored a 28.85 in the event, with Baylor leading 97.875 to 92.375 at the half.

BU had a 9.275, 9.425 and 9.625 in the toss event to have a total of 28.325 points, compared to Converse’s 26.475.

In tumbling, the Bears had four heats scoring above a 9.3. Emily Tobin had a 9.75 in the six-element pass, and Briana Harris continued to shine in the open heat with a score of 9.925. BU finished with a score of 53.875 while Converse had a 51.225. Going into the final event of the meet, Baylor was leading by nine points, 180.075 – 171.075.

The Bears had a score of 91.325 in the team event to end the meet, bringing the total to 271.400. The Valkyries had a point total of 89.12 from the team event to total 260.195 for the meet.

The Bears will face fourth-seeded Quinnipiac in the semifinals of the National Championships, with a start time of 9 p.m. CT.
