No. 4 Baylor MT Readies for Midweek Non-Conference Home Matches

WACO, Texas – No. 4 Baylor men’s tennis team is set to host Midwestern State on Tuesday and UT Tyler on Wednesday for back-to-back home non-conference matches at the Hurd Tennis Center. Both matches will be played at 2 p.m.

The Bears (22-3, 4-1 Big 12) will wrap up the regular season against the Mustangs (14-6, 6-0 LSC) and Patriots (9-8, 5-1 LSC), both Lone Star Conference members in Division II.

Baylor is coming off a winning weekend, victorious over No. 33 Texas Tech, 4-3, on Saturday night in Lubbock. BU improved to 9-3 against nationally ranked opponents this season with the win, as well as 8-1 on the road.

Baylor leads the all-time series with MSU, 4-1. The first meeting between the teams was in 1983, and the Bears have won four matches since. Last time out, BU swept the Mustangs, 7-0, in Waco.

Against UT Tyler, the Patriots lead the all-time series at 3-2. Before the last matchup in 2021, the two teams had played four matches from 1987-90. The Bears swept UTT, 7-0, in 2021 in Waco.

Baylor has had five 20-plus win seasons in the past six years, the lone outlier being the 13-win season for the Bears in the COVID-shortened 2020 season. Second-year head coach Michael Woodson has amassed a 56-8 overall record and an 8-2 record in Big 12 play.
