WACO, Texas – No. 1 Baylor acrobatics & tumbling’s Emily Tobin has been named Athlete of the Week while Bayley Humphrey has been dubbed Specialist of the Week by the NCATA, both for the second-straight week, the organization announced Wednesday.

This is Tobin’s fifth Athlete of the Week accolade for the season, earning them previously on Feb. 7, Feb. 23, March 2 and March 30. The senior competes as a top and a tumbler for the Bears.

Sophomore base Humphrey earned her third honor of the season, having first earned the Specialist nod on Feb. 23 and March 30.

In addition, top Jordan Gruendler earned Honorable Mention Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, first on Feb. 9.

In the 279.775 – 255.395 victory over then-ranked No. 7 Hawaii Pacific, Tobin competed in 12 heats while Bayley competed in a season-high 11 heats.

Tobin competed in all four compulsory categories, all but one earning a 9.3 or above in scoring. Humphrey was a base in compulsory acro, pyramid and toss as well.

For the acro heats, Tobin competed as a top in the first heat, the 5-element, earning an 8.85/10 with a raw score of 10.9. Humphrey was a base in heats two and three, the six and seven element heats. Heat two earned a 9.75/10 while heat three was a 9.8/10 with a raw score of 11.1. In the seven-element acro heat, Humphrey is the only base. She is currently the only base in the country to compete that many single-base skills in a single acro heat. Three of those skills no other base is currently competing, including a high hand-to-hand with back arch, straddle to low hand-to-hand, and the one arm flag with split.

For pyramid, Humphrey competed in all three while Tobin was a top in heats two and three. In heat one, Humphrey is the mid-level base of an extended high hand-to-hand pyramid that earned a 9.95/10. In heat two, the synchronized heat, Humphrey is the mid-level base to Jordan Gruendler while Tobin is the top of the second pyramid, both with a hand-to-foot connection. In heat three, Humphrey is the base who loads the top into the structure as a single base with Tobin as a top on the second structure. Heat three earned a 10/10, the fifth perfect 10 of the season, all coming in pyramid.

In the toss heats, Tobin is the top in heats two and three with Humphrey as one of her bases. Heat two earned a 9.5/10 while heat three was a 9.95/10.

Tobin tumbles in heats one and five of the tumbling event. Heat one, the duo pass, earned a 9.6/10 with Kristen McCain. Tobin competes heat five, the six-element, solo, earning a 9.775/10.

For the team event, Tobin contributes to the acro, pyramid, toss, standing and running tumbling elements while Humphrey also contributes to acro, pyramid and toss. Humphrey contributes 10 of the 30 required elements while Tobin is a part of three.

In addition to the weekly award announcement, the NCATA released its third and final set of Championship Rankings on Wednesday, with BU ranked No. 1 for the third week in a row. The top eight teams will qualify for the NCATA National Championships. The seedings and pairings as well as the 2022 championship field and at-large qualifiers for individual event finals will be released on Monday, April 11.

The NCATA championship committee considers the overall performance of teams throughout the season thus far and utilized the following criteria to consider team rankings: W/L record, head-to-head competition, strength of schedule, common opponents, average meet score, average meet start value, score differential (execution) and human elements.
