WACO, Texas – No. 4 Baylor men’s tennis faces No. 3 TCU for a Sunday matinee at the Hurd Tennis Center, opening the home Big 12 schedule at 1 p.m. with a gold out.

The Bears (19-2, 1-0) take on the Horned Frogs (18-3, 1-0) for the second time in nine days when they meet in Waco, and the first match at home for BU since February 12.

TCU currently leads the all-time series, 35-30, with BU winning six of the last seven matches.

When the two teams met on March 25, then-No. 9 Baylor came away with the win, 5-2, over the then-No. 1 ranked Frogs at the Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth. The Bears won the doubles point on courts two and three before taking the first set on all six singles courts, clinching at 4-0 before playing it out.

No. 15 Adrian Boitan defeated No. 14 Juan Carlos Aguilar on court one, Finn Bass bested No. 65 Jake Fearnley on court four, former Frog Tadeas Paroulek took the win over Pedro Vives Marcos on court five and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi beat Tomas Jirousek on court six. No. 18 Luc Fomba took the court two win over No. 50 Matias Soto, and 55th-ranked Sander Jong got the win over No. 31 Sven Lah on court three. In doubles, it was Grassi Mazzuchi and Soto winning 6-4 over No. 3 Jong and Lui Maxted while Boitan/Paroulek beat Aguilar/Vives Marcos on court three, 6-2. No. 30-ranked Lah/Bass fell to No. 2 Fomba/Fearnley on court one.

Since then, BU has moved up to No. 4 in the ITA rankings while TCU dropped to third, and Baylor opened Big 12 play with a 6-0 win over No. 11 Texas in Austin. BU took the doubles point with courts two and three continuing their winning ways. The Bears went on to win all six second-sets in singles and found wins on all courts but court two that went unfinished. With the win, head coach Michael Woodson is 5-1 in Big 12 matches in his two years as head coach.

The Frogs come to Waco after besting No. 40 Texas Tech, 6-1, in Fort Worth to open their conference slate. They took the doubles point and won two of the three straight-set results while the remaining three singles needed a third set against the Red Raiders.

During the month of April, the Baylor men’s and women’s tennis teams will sport “BB” stickers on their racquets in memory of BU alumna and avid tennis supporter, Betty Bryant.

Against the Frogs, the Bears will have free gold t-shirts for the gold out, as well as free Shorty’s Pizza and Tiff’s Treats throughout the match, all while supplies last.
